We go Wii !
A few weeks ago, "PlayDevil" received an invitation from Nintendo Benelux about their upcoming party event of their new console "Wii". We had to register ourselves to a just-made-for-the-event website of Nintendo and enter there our 'unique access code". After we filled the form in with our names, details, etc we received an confirmation e-mail with the secret location. Details: Starting 19u30, 21 November 2006 in ACB Factory, Brussels.
Wii report
Around 19u15 we arrived @ the ACB Factory (which is a big old factory renovated for events) in Brussels and fortunately they had a secured parking.
After telling the reception who we were, we were granted access to the reception hall where several Nintendo DS consoles were ready to play, of course with mostly non-released games. A bar and plenty of food (such as tasty sushi) were available for those who rather wanted to look at people playing.
Around 8 o' clock, everybody (probably 100 or more people) were granted access to another room where a presentation on Nintendo's new console, the Wii was about to start. After a small presentation about the console (in dutch and french), two actors (everybody thought they were from Nintendo technical services) made a very funny presentation about the things you can do with the Wii remote and nunchuk! It was a fantastic show and everybody in the room was laughing out loud. Great !
After the presentation, the doors were opening to give us access to a very big room, with another bar and two long tables filled with food ... and of course 30-50 Wii consoles!! It was amazing! See pictures below. There was also a small room filled with unreleased games such as the upcoming "Rayman Raving Rabbids", the new "Trauma Center", "Need for Speed: Carbon", "Wii Play", "Mario Strikers Charged", ... Every game looks cool but the best Wii experience we had was of course with the funny Rayman Raving Rabbids, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and the new Trauma Center. These games are really a must-have!
Now back to the main room where everybody played the Wii Sports pack ranging from playing bowlingball, tennis, table-tennis, golf, boxing, ... and the fantastic "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess". We also played with several titles from the Wii Sports disc (included with the Wii console) and some games are exhausting. Especially the boxing game is a title that needs a towel and drinks. But it's fun and with all Wii titles this is the primary play rule. Having fun while playing! Controlling a game is easy with the Wii remote and Nunchuk. You might think at first sight that it's difficult to master the movement but once playing, you'll be amazed by its simple controls. And it works!
Of course after playing with most of the titles, we had to eat and oh boy, Nintendo definitely did a good job here. Plenty of 'good healthy' food such as a lot of oriental pastas, rice with scampi's, etc etc. You definitely need to take a look at the photos we took.
The Wii, Nintendo's new console is a game experience that is very different from any other console. It's true that the games aren't as detailed as games on Xbox 360 or PS3 but that's not Nintendo's goal or what the Wii stands for. They want to make games that are accessible to everybody. From the young to the hardcore gamer. Or from the grandparents to the parents playing with their children. And believe us, sometimes games don't have to be very detailed or gorgeous to have fun!
The Nintendo Wii is an unique innovative product which will give the gamer and non-gamer a new perspective on playing videogames. Wii stands for "WE" and WE definitely had fun with it.
The Wii is coming out with a bunch of launch titles on 8th December in Europe at a launch price for the console of 249.99 euros. "We" are definitely hooked on Nintendo's new system and can't really wait until it launches.
We also took several photos of the event, to give you an idea of what we experience.
Thanks again to Nintendo Benelux for inviting us! Wii had FUN!
Enjoy!
