Let the games begin !
Well well, we made it back to the office after a whole day playing the latest games (out and not released) on the latest edition of the "Gamepower Expo 2007". Of course we still wanted to stay but when the doors are closing ... you just have to go!
So what kind of interesting games did we see in this years GPE 2007 ? Find out in our report with devilish screenshots.
When entering the event, "Nintendo" was our first stop. A lot of Wii games were presented with a small amound of DS titles but there were still a few Wii titles that we played like the new Resident Evil game, "Umbrella Chronicles" which looks absolutely stunning when you play it with Nintendo's Zapper. Exciting ! The dive game "Endless Ocean" was also playable but the biggest surprise of all was "Super Mario Galaxy" for Wii which was presented in a special room with 5 playable Wii consoles ! And we must agree, SMG is THE Wii game of 2007. When going on sale on 16 November, this game will defintely sell. See our screenshots for more SMG action !
One of the other publishers that were present on the GPE was veteran "SEGA". SEGA brought a full set of "Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games" and we played it numerous times. Conclusion, lots of fun with the different sports but you have to play this one with 2 or more friends. Other playable titles were "SEGA Rally", "Virtua Fighter 5" and others that are already out.
"Sony" had probably the biggest stand on the GPE with lots of PS3 and PSP consoles. The most interesting title here was of course the upcoming "Devil May Cry 4" from Capcom and "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune". These two titles are certainly gonna be big for Sony's PlayStation 3. On the other hand, people were pretty busy playing the latest PSP games as well so the PSP ain't dead yet.
Another big stand was for publisher "Electronic Arts" which had a special "FIFA 08" stand where gamers could compete against eachother and believe it or not ... the biggest prize was a PS3 and lots of games. Talk about winning a big prize for just playing a game! Of course, you had to be "very good" to win from all the others. EA also displayed a lot of other titles like the upcoming co-op game "Army of Two" which looked fantastic and the latest "Need for Speed" was there too. Played very well and the framerate was excellent. "The Simpsons: The Game" was one the games that we enjoyed a lot, especially in co-op.
"THQ" was another publisher that displayed a few titles, mostly released by now such as "Conan", "Juiced 2" while publisher "Vivendi" was here to promote mostly their new titles like "Clash of the Titans" and of course the long awaited "TimeShift".
For the fans of card games, there was a special stand where you could compete with your "Magic: The Gathering" cards against other players. Looked good if you know what you are basically doing ... we don't understand all those different cards so we just looked and moved on.
Of course the food & drinks stand was not missing but didn't offer much. At least the beer was here and that was the only thing we really needed from "foods & drinks". Thank god the organisation hired some booth babes which were a nice welcome after playing videogames.
In the end, this years edition of the "Gamepower Expo" was definitely worth visiting and we can't wait until the show gets Belgium again next year. If it only could be a bit bigger, then this could be THE game event of the Benelux.
Enjoy the screens & see you next year in a GPE 2008 report!
