A little Introduction
While Ion Storm had some problems with their members and leaks they still got something else to show off, except for Daikatana. Their other game title, not finished yet, is going to be a 3D-RPG (Role Playing Game) called Anachronox. A 3D-RPG? Like the Final Fantasy series? Well, something like that but then thousand times better.
So, keep reading.
Ion Storm's Anachronox, more 3D, less ...
Why did I say that? A thousand times better? Well, Anachronox is not just a role playing game.
No, it's in fact a 'multi-dimension action adventure science fiction 3d role playing game'.
Everything is completely 3D-rendered and the game uses the old but pretty powerful and still good-looking "Quake II engine". Of course the Q2 engine will be heavy modified. Remember what Raven Software did for Heretic II? They also used the same eninge but it was pretty hefty modified.
We can expect a lot of neat special effects in this one like a lot of colored lighting, gorgeous textures and other fantasy effects.
However, this game isn't like any other RPG like FF7 or others because Anachronox (and it takes a while to type and pronounce it right) will have more features then any other 3D-RPG.
The player controls up to 3 characters, at a time, which are called "Sylvester 'Sly' Boots", "Stiletto Anyway" and "Paco 'El Puno' Estrella".
Lipsynched Anachronox!
The total cast counts 7 members which will explore the galaxy in 3 different dimensions.
The gameplay is an exploration of the environment, melee with various galactic foes. You will also discover during your guest several unique weapons and items that will aid you a lot.
The
game itself is, from what I've heard, non-linear because you can choose from different characters and there are different ways to do things which will lead you to again, different events and areas in the game.
Another exciting feature that Anachronox has is that it uses the third-person camera angle. Like Raven's Heretic II which we shall review next week this could be an very neat and improving feature.
There are several 3D battle sequences in context, mini-games from many perspectives like overhead, sidescrolling and a cool chasecam.
