The SEQUEL of GRAW is HERE!
"Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2" (or GRAW 2) presents a very familiar face when the preview comes up, perhaps an all too familiar face considering there are plenty of sceptics who think that there has not been enough time since the last game came out, who believe this just to be GRAW 1.1.
The menus look exactly the same, and so is the music. The loading screens remain unchanged too. You could argue this is just continuity, however, but many gamers are feeling that Ubisoft is taking a kind of 'EA style' money over substance route by releasing a sequel so early anyway.
However, once you are in game, all scepticisms are blown away instantaneously. There is an immediate, apparent graphical improvement over the still-impressive GRAW 1. Scott Mitchell looks much better, and is better animated. The backdrops are now simply stunning, with realistic heat haze and the like.
Smoke and explosion effects are also much improved, and so is the quality of the AI soldiers. Sound-wise, the game feels very familiar to before, but this is no bad thing, because once again the guns sound meaty and the explosions have a good bassy feel to them.
There are also new gameplay features. Ubisoft describes it as 'Cross-Com 2.0' and whilst here it does feel more like 'Cross-Com 1.1' as the improvements are subtle; improvements are there nonetheless.
The HUD looks slightly better and actions like the reload meter take up less of the screen. The camera mode for your team-mates and drones has also been improved. You can now also directly control the drone, which is a really useful feature and gives you far greater control over the battlefield, as you can now use the drone far more accurately.
There is also an un-manned vehicle to control which gives you cover and re-stocks you with ammo, another useful addition, although the handling is less than perfect.
The best addition, however, is the new medic class, who can now heal you as well as your team.
Whilst the time we spent with the game was far too short as our demo was very brief, the improvements look to refine a classic game and make GRAW2 another 'must buy!'
