Around end of March, publisher Atari will release the next instalment of the legendary action driving game, Driver. The new game, available on Xbox / PS2 is called "Driver: Parallel Lines".
It's a 'driving' game that offers an open, fast-paced driving action-movie experience and features an unfolding storyline of double crossing and revenge.
The first half of Driver: Parallel Lines is set in a photorealistic interpretation of New York City during the 1970's as players take on the role of TK, a notorious 18 year-old who, free from conscience and rules, is the most sought after driver-for-hire in town.
TK gets involved with a scheming group bent on taking down one of the biggest names in the underground crime scene. As the getaway driver, TK gets double crossed and is imprisoned for 28 years.
Fast forward to 2006 and TK is older, meaner, and hell bent on settling some serious scores. He needs to call on every driving trick in his considerable repertoire to tame the over-powered road machines that 2006 presents him. After twenty-plus years in jail, it's time to hit the streets once again.
"Driver: Parallel Lines" is equipped with a entirely new story with over 35 diverse missions as well as on-the-fly mini-games such as destruction derby and cops and robbers. It could be well one the most surprising driving games of 2006. The game will also boost some non-stop driving action with Hollywood-style car chasing experiences.
Eighty drivable vehicles are available in 'Driver: Parallel Lines' including cars, bikes trucks, buses and construction equipment, each with authentic physics. It also features comprehensive vehicle tuning with performance and visual customization. Something that tuning gamers have really look forward too.
The game boosts a neat damage system with high details and level of destruction. TK will be controlled highly intuitive with improved physics and of course he has an expansive arsena of weaponry at his disposal.
The developer, Reflections Interactive has done massive work with "living worlds" in Driver: Parallel Lines and New York City is truly incredibly detailed and photo-realistic. You'll be able to explore it in the 1970's and 2006. Reflections Interactive also promised that the new instalment of Driver will have an open mission structure integrated around the central storyline and with no load times what-so-ever.
We can only hope that they deliver what they promise us and that this new instalment is much better then 'Driver 2'.
Driver: Parallel Lines is sheduled for release on X-Box and PS2 around end March.
Update: Atari has just launched the official site of "Driver: Parallel Lines".
