Clive Barker's Jericho demo available on XBL
  [Category : Demos_News] [Posted by Bjorn on Friday, September 28 2007 @ 10:29 CET]
The demo is now available from Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for the Xbox™ 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft® and the Games for Windows® demo available from www.codemasters.co.uk

In Europe and PAL territories, the demo will be available for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system on October 4th from PLAYSTATION®Network*.

Clive Barker's Jericho dispatches players to the Middle-Eastern city of Al-Khali. Controlling the Jericho squad, a team skilled in both conventional and paranormal warfare, players fight through different time periods from the city's history on a gruelling journey to unravel the legend of the First Born, God's first aborted creation of man and source of ultimate evil.

Thrusting gamers into the heart of this unique horror FPS, the demo is taken from the time of the Crusades in Al-Khali's past. A vicious attack has divided the squad, with one half presumed lost. As the demo opens, players join Sergeant Billie Church, Lieutenant Abigail Black and Sergeant Frank Delgado in the blood-drenched sewers and catacombs of a fortress.

Playing as Captain Devin Ross, the fallen squad leader who as a spirit is able to possess and heal individual members of the team, players must take advantage of Church, Black and Delgado's paranormal talents.

Delgado, a pyromancer and heavy weapons expert, can unleash a parasitic flame spirit to incinerate nearby enemies and wields a 7.62 calibre Minigun.

Church, a blood scribe, casts powerful wards, enchantments and banishments through the ritual of drawing her own blood. She also comes equipped with a customised Nodachi for ruthless melee attacks.

Black possesses astonishing telekentic powers, which lets her guide bullets fired from her customised XM-110 sniper rifle with pinpoint accuracy through multiple targets.

Only by combining the unique squad abilities of this paranormal fighting force can gamers survive this hellish nightmare and come closer to the truth.

Right from the off, players face a vicious onslaught from an army of grotesque crusader warriors. These twisted and tormented enemies, whose armour is fused with their rotting flesh and limbs replaced with axes and swords, are powerful, shocking realisations of monsters from the mind of Clive Barker.

Developed by Mercury Steam Entertainment, Clive Barker's Jericho will unleash its supernatural assault from October 26th 2007 (PAL territories) for the PLAYSTATION 3 system, Xbox 360 and Games for Windows.

Telltale is cranking the whole episodic experience up another notch and you can expect a very enjoyable six months."

Endless Ocean launches across Europe on Wii this November
[Category : Revolution] [Posted by Bjorn on Wednesday, September 26 2007 @ 16:12 CET]
Have you ever wanted to explore the bottom of the ocean or learn more about aquatic life? Now you can from the comfort of your living room with Endless Ocean on Wii!

Discover the beauty of the sea and take part in various activities such as swimming, exploring marine life or cataloguing tropical fish with this new Touch! Generations title. Endless Ocean launches across Europe 9th November 2007.

The beauty of Endless Ocean is that players can do as much or as little as they like. The relaxed and calm atmosphere of the game gives divers the freedom to explore special locations such as shipwrecks and underwater ruins, discover and interact with sea-life, complete fish logs or simply relax in the soothing environment.

The game opens with players onboard a diving boat, with a crew member who provides advice and tips on finding the best locations for fish and helps players advance the storyline. Players must assume the role of the diver, opting to go into the water to explore sea-life at their own pace utilising tools such as a camera or fish bait. In the cabin on the boat, divers can access the fish log to check out the fish that have been spotted, as well as carry out missions like photographing marine life. These missions unlock content, such as new items to use underwater, or different diving gear that can be used to customize the diver.

Navigating their way through the depths using the Wii remote, players guide their character using the pointer’s cursor, visible as a bright blue dot. When players wish to interact with fish or plants they can highlight them with the pointer and press the A Button. By doing so, players discover new species and build up their fish log. What’s more you can also befriend companions like a dolphin which will become your partner and with whom you can train and swim with.

For players really looking to kick back and relax Endless Ocean features several soothing modes. On the deck of the boat is a deckchair that allows the player to sit and watch the sea. Alternatively in the aquarium section of the game players can select fish they have seen and add them in an aquarium for a closer inspection. What’s more this game even doubles up as a tranquil screensaver if the Wii Remote is left untouched. The relaxed setting is further heightened with a tranquil soundtrack from New Zealand songstress Hayley Westenra.

If players prefer to dive with a buddy, the Wii’s unique WiFi Connection Service allows players link up with their friends. By exchanging friend codes, two players may dive and explore the ocean together. In this co-op mode they have access to all the tools that can be used in single player mode, as well as an additional mode of communication controlled with the D-pad. With a fish logbook to complete, items to be salvaged and collected and the ability to listen to your own MP3’s via the Wii SD Card slot while you dive, Endless Ocean provides hours of entertainment.

Make sure you’re ready to go diving as Endless Ocean launches across Europe on the 9th November at an estimated retail price of around Ł30.

Goodbye to Colin McRae ... RIP
  [Category : General_News] [Posted by Bjorn on Monday, September 17 2007 @ 17:14 CET]
Rally Champion "Colin McRae" is no more. He died yesterday with his 5-year old son and two other persons in a helicopter crash.
UK Developer and publisher "Codemasters", famous for their "Colin McRae Rally" games has put out a statement regarding the death of "Colin McRae.

Colin was only 39 years old.

Note from Codemasters:

Everyone at Codemasters, especially those who worked directly with Colin McRae, is deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic events of this weekend.

The loss of Colin McRae is deeply distressing. That it involved his son and another so young makes it even more tragic. Our thoughts are with his family and those closest to him and we share in their pain.

For over ten years, Colin was part of the Codemasters family and it was a privilege to have a man recognised as a true legend on the team. He always took a keen interest in the game experience, wanting to make sure it was without equal in its portrayal of the sport.

His contribution was inspirational and brought his technical expertise and passion for rally driving to each and every McRae game. Through the popularity of those games, he brought a whole new audience to the sport itself.

Codemasters’ relationship with Colin began through Jim, David and Richard Darling and their condolences, along with ours, are passed to Colin’s family. We are heavy of heart at his passing but we are also brimming with pride at knowing him and to have played a small role in his life.

He will never be forgotten by all at Codemasters.

Notes:

The Colin McRae series of video games:
Developed and published by Codemasters in partnership with Colin McRae, the McRae games now form a 9 million+ selling series. The first game, Colin McRae Rally, was published in the summer of 1998 for the PlayStation and PC. It became an international best-seller and set a benchmark for rally video games that only its sequels could better. Colin McRae Rally 2.0, for the PlayStation and PC, followed in 2000, with Colin McRae Rally 3, for the PlayStation 2 and PC, in 2002.

With Colin’s input, the series continued to evolve with an ever growing variety of car makes and classes, stages and countries featured through the games of 2003 and 2004, Colin McRae Rally 04 and Colin McRae Rally 2005 respectively (PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC).

Most recently, the series diversified further, mirroring Colin’s own participation in a broader range of motor sports, with year’s title: Colin McRae: DiRT. Published in June for the Xbox 360 and PC, and most recently for the PlayStation 3.

Blitz Games selects Kynapse for Next-Gen project
  [Category : General_News] [Posted by Bjorn on Friday, September 14 2007 @ 16:11 CET]
Blitz Games announced today that it is using Kynapse, the market leading AI middleware solution for an unannounced next generation title currently in development.

The project is one of the largest ever undertaken by Blitz Games and is due for release on Xbox360 and PlayStation 3.

“We have invested many millions of pounds since 1999 in developing our own BlitzWare engine and tool chain which have been used successfully to publish 42 titles to date – every one on time and to budget” said Andrew Oliver, Blitz’ CTO. “However, on this occasion we needed a very quick start. Since the game is very AI intensive and with several of our other development teams in the middle of their own next-gen games, we decided to turn to a third-party solution on this occasion, to guarantee success to our client. We therefore took a detailed look at the architecture and tool-chain used by a number of AI middleware solutions and found that Kynapse provided the best fit with our own methods of production.”

“We are delighted to be working with Blitz Games on this new exciting project”, said Pierre Pontevia, CEO of Kynogon SA. “Blitz has an unrivalled reputation within the industry for the quality of its technology, and we are honoured to be providing middleware to the company.”

Three new classic games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

NES Play Action Football (NES®, 1-4 players, rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): "Ready! Hut hut hut..." Nintendo takes to the gridiron with the classic football powerhouse NES Play Action Football. Featuring a distinct overhead viewpoint that creates an almost 3-D field, the action is more simulation-based than many of the more arcade-based games of the time. Play through four 15-minute quarters (in accelerated time) and even substitute players when your first-stringers get tired. Want more options? Each of the eight available teams has multiple running/passing plays to choose from while on offense, as well as a wide selection of defensive schemes that can be run when you're on the other side of the ball. And in addition to viewing two full teams on the screen at once without any slowdown, you'll hear voice snippets at key points of the game. Line up, and see if you have what it takes to win the Power Bowl.

Sonic the Hedgehog™ 3 (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, rated E for Everyone – Comic Mischief, 800 Wii Points): Sonic and Tails are back for another adventure as they again battle the evil Dr. Eggman (aka Dr. Robotnik), who is desperately trying to collect all the Chaos Emeralds to rebuild his Death Egg. Our heroes must again find the Chaos Emeralds before Dr. Eggman does, but winning the race won't be easy this time – a new adversary, Knuckles the Echidna, has arrived on the scene and will do whatever he can to keep Sonic and Tails from reaching their goal. Grab all the golden rings, find various bonus zones and overcome Knuckles and Dr. Eggman as you rocket through the third chapter in Sonic's adventures.

Neutopia II (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, rated E for Everyone – Mild Fantasy Violence, 600 Wii Points): Experience improved graphics and controls in this exciting sequel to the action role-playing game Neutopia. Take on the role of the main hero's son and watch as the story begins with the apparent revival of Dirth, the evil demon. Once again you'll need to rely on your magic compass and the information you've gathered to find entrances to labyrinths and defeat the bosses in them. Make your way through the field, which can be tricky at times, to search for and find hidden information and items, or move blocks and destroy walls to uncover secret rooms. Like the original, this game has a save function, a finely tuned difficulty level and a fast-paced story, making it truly an RPG that everyone can enjoy.

Luc Bernard's Eternity's Child Coming For DS And Wii
[Category : Multiplatform] [Posted by Bjorn on Monday, September 10 2007 @ 15:40 CET]
Alten8 has agreed with Luc Bernard on the creation and publication of Nintendo DS and Wii versions of the Eternity's Child game , bringing this delightful creation to an even wider audience. Luc will be working closely with Alten8 to bring his creations to life on these formats

The story of Eternitys Child and the orphan ‘Angel’ - the planet on which Eternity's Child is set on. The planet was once filled with many living creatures and vast forests, however due to the pollution created by the habitants the icebergs melted and the whole planet was flooded and most of the creatures became extinct. The creatures without wings that were left became jealous of the ones with wings (that allowed them to survive the flooding), so the land creatures started murdering all the winged creatures until there was none left. To repopulate the world, many mechanical robots were created so that the world would not seem as empty as before, but most of those creatures got out of control and started attacking and destroying what was left.

Eternity's Child Wii version details -

Angel was left at the door of a orphanage when he was a baby, to protect him from being murdered his wings were cut off. The years went by as he stayed in that orphanage, not accepted by the other children and being often tortured and picked on. Angel then escapes from the orphanage to try to find any remaining creatures of his species and hoping to be accepted by them despite him not having his wings.

Details about Wii version –

- The entire game is hand drawn
- the animations are done traditionally by hand frame by frame (like old disney films)
- the soundtrack is all orchestral
- the game is an Interactive Fairytale
- there will be songs in the game like old disney films
- 2 player co operative mode will be available

DS version –

- the game will be a 3D platform game
- will not have the same story as the Wii version

MapleStory Europe gets rankings boost
[Category : PC] [Posted by Bjorn on Friday, September 7 2007 @ 16:44 CET]
NEXON, the world-leading developer and publisher of online games, is pleased to announce the introduction of a brilliant new ranking feature for its exciting and hugely popular free to play online RPG, MapleStory Europe. Players can now actively compete against each other in a whole new way, courtesy of an online rankings database which lets people directly compare their progress against that of both friends and rivals.

MapleStory is unique among MMORPGs in that it continually ranks players according to their current level and experience total. As players increase their experience, so their ranking changes. Now players can see exactly how they are doing by logging in to the MapleStory Europe homepage, www.mapleeurope.com, and browsing through a searchable online database of all active players.

The rankings, which are updated on an hourly basis, are divided into Overall, World and Job categories, allowing players to compare their progress against all other players, those that play on the same channel, or those with the same in-game profession. In addition, the top three fastest movers in each category are singled out for special recognition on the website, giving high-flying players something extra special to strive for.

A fourth category compares players on the basis of Fame, MapleStory’s unique in-game popularity rating. From Level 15 players can, on a once a day basis, give (or take away) a fame point to any other player in the game. As players who rank highly on the Fame leaderboard are assured legendary status among other MapleStory fans, this is guaranteed to make for an interesting and fiercely fought category.

In addition to the new online ranking system, all posts and comments made on the www.mapleeurope.com forum are now tagged with the player’s in-game avatar. Not only does this help to encourage community involvement, it continues to reinforce the deep character personalisation and customisation options available throughout MapleStory Europe.

To help celebrate the launch of the system, and as warm up for the Oktoberfest event set to take place in-game later this month, MapleStory Europe will be running a ‘Monster Invasion’ on September 10th at 6pm British Summer Time. During this one-hour event, huge swarms of monsters will randomly descend on various towns across Victoria Island to terrorise the locals, giving people the perfect opportunity to gain some experience and rocket up the rankings.

“We’re very pleased to be introducing the online ranking leaderboards to MapleStory Europe as part of our continuing efforts to add new features,” said Calvin Yoo, Director of International Business Development at NEXON Europe. “Now players have a quick and easy way of seeing how well they are progressing in-game compared to their friends. This is yet another example of how MapleStory Europe continues to innovate and entertain in the field of MMORPGs”.

KOEI, recognized worldwide as the premier brand of strategy and action games, announced today that Warriors Orochi™ has reached gold status and will be available at retailers throughout North America beginning the week of September 18, 2007, for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system.

About Warriors Orochi

Without warning, the venomous Serpent King Orochi descended from the skies above. Using his unworldly powers to shatter time and space, Orochi kidnapped the strongest, wisest and most courageous warriors from Ancient China and Feudal Japan in a scheme to test his might against the heroes of these ages.

Most of the great armies of these two periods would succumb to the might of Orochi. Yet powerful warriors remain and are ready to continue the fight. Now, the greatest showdown in history is about to take place…

In Warriors Orochi the characters from both franchises must team-up to wage war against this new, yet powerful force. The game boasts an amazing roster of 77 playable characters from both the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors franchises, while four action-packed “crossover” storylines feature amazing team-ups and some long-awaited confrontations between characters from both series.

The game’s new “Team Battle System” and “Weapon Fusion” push Tactical Action to a whole new level. For the first time in KOEI’s Tactical Action games, players can create their own three-person tag team. At any given time, one warrior will be engaged in battle, while the other two are recuperating; restoring their Life Meters and Musou Gauges. Every character is categorized according to offensive ability, and with new fighting techniques, it’s up to the player to find the most lethal combination of warriors. “Weapon Fusion” lets players combine the attributes from different weapons for more devastating results.

Warriors Orochi for Xbox 360 delivers the complete Tactical Action experience with stunning graphics in 720p HDTV and in game Dolby® Digital audio. This game is rated “T” (Teen- Mild Language, Mild Suggestive Themes, and Violence) by the ESRB. Warriors Orochi is developed by KOEI’s award-winning internal team, Omega Force.

Worms: Open Warfare 2 ... and more
[Category : Multiplatform] [Posted by Bjorn on Thursday, September 6 2007 @ 14:34 CET]
Today, Two Tribes and Team17 announce they have teamed up for the creation of Worms: Open Warfare 2 for Nintendo DS. The game, which has been released on the 31st of August, is the latest entry into the popular Worms franchise.

Early 2006, Team17 approached Two Tribes to collaborate on the creation of a new Worms title for Nintendo DS. One year on, Worms: Open Warfare 2 has been completed. The game offers Nintendo DS owners countless hours of turn-based battle action. It is chockfull of features, including double screen gameplay, tons of customization options and full wireless support including online play.

"We are very pleased with how the game turned out.", says Collin van Ginkel, Creative Director at Two Tribes. "After a year of hard work, we really enjoy playing against Worms players from all over the world!"

Martijn Reuvers, Managing Director at Two Tribes, continues: "We have been huge fans of the Worms franchise since the very first game was released back in 1994 and strongly felt it was our mission to provide the best possible Worms experience for Nintendo DS owners. We are confident that players will have a blast playing this game. Literally."

Martyn Brown, Studio Director at Team17 agrees: "We believe that the quality of the title, as shown in glowing reviews at major sites like IGN.com, 1UP.com and GamePro.com, proves that in a games industry flooded with disappointing sequels, there are still companies striving for perfection where possible – and this time, alongside a fine PSP edition, they've helped us deliver a simply fantastic DS version – the very reason why we believed in them in the first place."

The cooperation between the two companies will not end here though. "It's been a real pleasure for Team17 to work with Two Tribes on the recent 'Worms Open Warfare 2' and we would expect our co-development relationship to continue to blossom over the coming years on further titles.", Brown continues. "It's rare to find an external team with so much commitment to the cause and who are real fans of the game you're trying to make – rarer still to strike a great working partnership with a great set of people."

Worms: Open Warfare 2 is now available at your local store and at various online stores.
