SiN Episodes: Emergence Launches In Europe

Ritual Entertainment’s SiN Episodes: Emergence for the PC, the first-ever episodic action game, is now available in retail stores throughout the European territories, excluding Germany, in addition to being downloadable online via the Steam distribution platform (www.steamgames.com).

SiN Episodes: Emergence breaks new ground as the first major episodic action gaming release. Episodic games are a new format for PC games that provide gamers with more intense and affordable game experiences at a quality level at or above traditionally priced products. Several leading developers and publishers are expected to follow suit with episodic releases throughout the year.

“With the release of SiN Episodes: Emergence Ritual is leading the industry’s long overdue migration to producing episodic content,” said Gabe Newell. “This has allowed them to achieve something every independent developer desires: The ability to produce a strong product on its own terms, own the property and realize the majority of the profits collected on the studio’s work.”

SiN Episodes: Emergence is the first episodic release in the SiN universe, which launched in 1998 with the debut PC game release. In addition to the original classic, the SiN franchise also includes Wages of SiN (1999, PC game) and SiN The Movie (VHS, DVD).

Emergence, the first in a series of episodic games, casts players as HardCorps commander John Blade, stepping into the living world of Freeport City to defend humankind against Elexis Sinclaire, a beautiful and ruthless scientist out to remake humanity according to her own twisted vision. The law has failed to bring Elexis and her SiNTEK empire to justice, so you and your allies, the secretive hacker JC and fiery rookie Jessica Cannon, must bring down Sinclaire and her mutants before she can set her deadly plan in motion and forever alter the shape of humanity.

Half-Life 2: Episode One Available June 1
[Category : PC] [Posted by Bjorn on Thursday, May 25 2006 @ 15:27 CET]
Valve, developer of the blockbuster series Half-Life and Counter-Strike, announced Half-Life 2: Episode One has gone gold. Episode One is the first in a trilogy of episodes that will conclude by Christmas of 2007.

Half-Life 2: Episode One advances the 15-million unit selling franchise and launches the first in a new, three-part series that leads far beyond City 17. Half-Life 2: Episode One does not require Half-Life 2 to play, and will be available via Steam® and at retail stores in North America for just $19.95 on June 1st. Also included in Episode One is a first look at Episode Two, which will ship by year's end.

"Given the rapid changes in PC gaming, we expect episodic games will have the same impact on single-player gaming that Counter-Strike had on multiplayer," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "The frequent releases of upgraded technology and new content works better for both consumers and developers, and is one of the key reasons Counter-Strike grew to be 80% of the online action market. We decided that a follow-up to Half-Life 2 delivered in 18 months with our first episode was more in tune with what our customers want than waiting 6 years for another monolithic product."

Episode One offers a new single player experience created by Valve, and is designed to be four to six hours in length. Stepping into the hazard suit of Dr. Gordon Freeman, you face the immediate repercussions of your actions in City 17 and the Citadel. Alyx Vance and her robot, Dog, will accompany you in your efforts to aid in the human resistance's desperate battle against the totalitarian alien menace of the Combine.

Rush for Berlin Multiplayer demo now available
  [Category : Demos_News] [Posted by Bjorn on Wednesday, May 24 2006 @ 20:50 CET]
Paradox Interactive and Stormregion announced today the release of the multiplayer demo for "Rush for Berlin" and the official tournament for the game.

Over the coming weeks, players from different countries will play off against each other in a worldwide tournament that will determine who is the "Best Rush for Berlin Player"! The ladder competition will play out on Gamespy Arena and the winners will share hundreds of dollars worth of prizes!

To prepare for the tournament up to 4 players can practise multiplayer matches with the demo either over LAN, Direct IP or GameSpy. Furthermore it will be possible to play the maps of the demo solo against up to three AI enemies. Each of the three factions of the full game are available in the demo, each offering its own unique strengths and weaknesses: The Allies with a higher availability of resources, the germans with a higher technology level and the russians with faster and cheaper infantry production.

The multiplayer demo of "Rush for Berlin" offers two of the five modes available in the full game: Deathmatch and R.U.S.H.

R.U.S.H (Relentlessly Utilized Score Hunt)
This mode works on the same principles as the game itself: players rush for given target(s) to occupy various objects, which yield points. Whoever scores the most points in a given time period OR reaches the preset score limit wins. Each object grants a one-time bonus to the team which captures it first (and a reduced bonus if the object is destroyed).

Deathmatch
Fight your way through the enemy front - against your friends or against the AI. The only goal is to eliminate any and all units belonging to other players - or teams.

EA and Jeep join forces in upcoming Medal of Honor Airborne
[Category : Multiplatform] [Posted by Bjorn on Tuesday, May 23 2006 @ 17:16 CET]
Electronic Arts and the Jeep brand announced today that they have signed a deal that will give gamers a chance to experience Jeep vehicles in Medal of Honor Airborne as they were found in World War II.

The classic Willys-Overland Jeep will appear for extended, action-packed sequences in several missions of Medal of Honor Airborne.

Medal of Honor Airborne is the newest installment from EA's critically-acclaimed Medal of Honor franchise which was credited with pioneering the First-Person Shooter (FPS) WWII genre when it debuted in 1999, and is the best selling WWII FPS franchise of all time. By fully controlling the airdrop from the very first step through landing, Medal of Honor Airborne adds a new dimension of player choice by letting the player decide where every mission begins and how it plays out. Building on the key tenets of the franchise including historical accuracy, research, and authenticity, for the first time Medal of Honor Airborne will include fully player-drivable vehicles, including the Willys Jeep.

Jeep played an integral role in the war effort as an indispensable tool in tracking the enemy, exchanging information and moving troops. Over 350,000 Willys Jeep vehicles were built and used during WWII, and at one point the assembly line was pushing out one vehicle every 90 seconds. When driving a Willys Jeep in Medal of Honor Airborne, the player can choose to use it as a mode of transportation, or as a mobile attack platform taking full advantage of a variety of mounted weapons. Authentic to their use in WWII, the Willys Jeep will be able to access more areas than the other drivable vehicles featured in Medal of Honor Airborne, because of Jeep vehicle's superior four-wheel drive off-road capabilities.

As the first game in the Medal of Honor series to be released on next generation platforms,
Medal of Honor Airborne and is being developed under the EA brand for the PlayStation3 and PlayStation2 computer entertainment systems, Xbox 360 videogame system from Microsoft, and Windows PC.

SEGA Europe Ltd, today announced Tenchu: Time of the Assassins exclusively for the PSP system.

SEGA has partnered with FromSoftware and K2 studios - developers of the popular Tenchu: Fatal Shadows (released in 2005 for PlayStation2) - to continue the legacy of the flagship franchise, which is set for release on June 23rd, 2006.

The complex 3D environments the series is known for have been carried over on the PSP in their entirety. Enhanced stealth manoeuvres challenge your ninja skills, and all-new kill moves add yet more realism and entertainment to this ninja-based action adventure. Now, every enemy is susceptible to carefully planned stealth kills – even the end level bosses!

“Tenchu’s gameplay offers all the strategy of a stealth game but none of the frustration” commented Matt Woodley, Creative Director of SEGA. “This next release represents SEGA’s commitment to providing compelling new content to the handheld market”

All of the classic Tenchu characters return in scenario mode, including Rikimaru, Ayame, Rin, and Tesshu. Each character is tied to a different story, and each story offers different levels to play through. In addition to the scenario mode, there is also a ‘free mission’ mode that’s comprised of 50 independent missions to enjoy after you have completed the single-player campaign.

Tenchu: Time of the Assassins also features a robust multiplayer component that allows players to connect via a local (Ad-Hoc) connection to play cooperative and head-to-head games. A compelling level editor gives players a powerful tool for allowing them to create their own stages and share them with friends, also via ad hoc download.

Tenchu: Time of the Assassins is set for release on 23rd June 2006 exclusively for the PSP.
Nintendo announces Nintendogs Dalmatian & Friends Edition
  [Category : Nintendo_DS] [Posted by Bjorn on Monday, May 22 2006 @ 12:45 CET]
Since the launch of Nintendogs back in October 2005, copies of this title have been flying off the shelves, with over 2.5 million copies sold in Europe and 6 million copies globally. Now Nintendo is offering canine lovers the chance to own the much sought after Dalmatian puppy, as Nintendogs Dalmatian & Friends Edition goes on sale across Europe, exclusively for the Nintendo DS from 16th June 2006.

With an initial choice of six breeds to own and a further 14 to be unlocked, Nintendogs Dalmatian & Friends Edition sees the previously hard-to-unlock Dalmatian amongst the initial choices, along with the most popular dogs from the previous versions - Dachshund & Friends, Labrador & Friends and Chihuahua & Friends. If you’ve missed out on the handheld phenomenon of the year so far or have just been as yet unable to unlock your very own spotted puppy, Nintendogs Dalmatian & Friends is the companion for you.

Just as cute as ever, Nintendogs Dalmatian & Friends also features all the fantastic ‘touch’ and ‘talk’ elements of the original series. Players get to purchase their favourite puppy, making sure it is fed, walked, cleaned, played with and taught various tricks and commands using the Nintendo DS’s touch screen and microphone.

Once players have trained their puppy, they can enroll their dog into competitions to show off their new talents and earn prize money. Three different types of competition are available: an obedience trial, a frisbee-catching contest and an obstacle course. With the competition earnings, players can purchase food, toys and accessories for their puppy.

The Nintendo DS’s Wi-Fi functionality also allows players to share their adorable new Dalmatian with friends through ‘Bark Mode’. Interacting with another puppy automatically unlocks that breed in another players version of Nintendogs, giving players the chance to share this rare new puppy with friends.

In ‘Bark Mode’, owners search for other Nintendo DS’s running in the same mode using the console’s built in wireless connection. If another console is discovered, the DS will emit a ‘barking’ noise, alerting owners that a playmate has been found. Both players then exchange contact cards, allowing them to interact with each others puppies and give exciting gifts if they wish to. With the phenomenal success of Nintendogs across Europe, owners shouldn’t have any trouble finding someone to meet in ‘Bark Mode’!

So whether you’re a Nintendogs fan or just dotty about Dalmatians, this title is for you! Nintendogs Dalmatian & Friends bounds its way on to the Nintendo DS across Europe from 16th June 2006 for the estimated retail price of around £29.99.

With all the detail and precision of a hardcore simulator, it is truly amazing how easy it is to pick up the game and to be barreling across the battlefield with cannons blazing right out of the box, said Jay Podilchuk, Executive Producer at Strategy First Inc. “Of course you might have to learn a thing or two about barrel wear and droop; the tank commander’s equivalent to performance anxiety.”

About Iron Warrior: T-72 Tank Command
The most destructive mechanized armor to ever roll onto a battlefield is brought to life in Iron Warriors: T72-Tank Command. This epic combat simulator allows the player to command an entire platoon of tanks and ALL associated support units, or assume the role of any member in a complete tank crew.

Software publisher Strategy First Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Silverstar Holdings, Ltd. is pleased to announce the signing of the turn based strategy game titled “Birth of America”. Initially published by the French company AGEOD, Birth of America is an original creation of Philippe Thibaut and developer SEP BOA.

About Birth of America

The year 2005 marks the 250th anniversary of the start of the French & Indian Wars. Twenty years later, the America Revolutionary War erupted. These two events marked the real start of a new era in the Americas and the end of British Colonial rule.

In Birth of America, the player controls one of the major contenders of these 2 conflicts, trying to achieve military and political victory. It is a complete and detailed simulation of the two most important wars in Colonial America - from 1755 to 1783. The game covers all of North America, from Florida to Quebec and New England to Mississippi.

Control the military action of your nation. This includes such activities as drafting forces, building forts and depots, sieges and blockades, raiding enemy settlements and battles, both on land and at sea.

Naval units come in the form of warship squadrons and flotillas. You can also manage supply wagons, water transport, forts and depots. Wide diversity of troop types are implemented, including: light infantry; dragoons; siege artillery; rangers; Indian warriors; marines; militias; ships of the line; frigates and lake flotillas. There are more than ninety different models of units in all.

Thanks to everybody who voted in our last poll. The poll was closed today and it seems a lot of you are really wanting a new "PlayDevil.com".
A new design, better structure, better navigation, etc.

Well fellow gamers, it will happen! We listen to our readers and decided that PlayDevil.com V2 will see the light!
Nothing concrete yet but it's coming.
When? Too early yet since we haven't worked anything out yet. We'll keep you posted as soon as there is more information.

We have also started a new poll, going 'live' today and it's about the price of Sony's upcoming "PlayStation 3" console.
There will be 2 versions, one with a 20 and 60 gig HDD. Price: 490 and 590 euro's.

Question is now: what do you think of its price? Too expensive, just enough, fine by you or will you stick with the 360 or perhaps with Nintendo's upcoming Wii console?

LMA Manager 2007 coming for 360, PC and PS2
[Category : Multiplatform] [Posted by Bjorn on Thursday, May 18 2006 @ 16:25 CET]
The next-generation of LMA Manager, the nation’s favourite football manager game for consoles, will be the first to kick off the new 2006/2007 season when LMA Manager 2007 launches for PC and the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft in late September.

A PlayStation 2 edition of LMA Manager 2007, with updated stats for the start of the season, will also launch in late September.

LMA Manager 2007 will deliver the series’ totally compelling world of football to the new formats in massively expanded editions, with teams from over 50 countries to manage or pick transfers from. The game will retain LMA Manager’s brilliantly intuitive and user-friendly interface, where every piece of information is no more than a couple of button-presses away, and comes complete with the series’ trademark visually rewarding presentation.

Designed by Codemasters’ LMA team, now expanded to include a dedicated PC development group, LMA Manager 2007 utilises a new game and database engine to handle more teams, a Transfer Market system with greater depth for more complex contract negotiations, and a detailed 3D match section that brings the reality and pressures of match day alive.

LMA Manager’s pioneering use of a 3D match has become a defining game element for the series’ legions of players. Now, the game’s enhanced visual engine will make full use of next-generation rendering systems, adding normal mapping, parallax mapping, and realistic lighting effects for even more detail that really brings match day home. The Xbox 360 edition of the game also plays out in glorious widescreen, giving you an even better view of the action.

Seeing your team play out your tactics in detail enables you to make instant decisions based on their play at that very moment, rather than continually referencing a page of stats or blobs floating around a screen.

Plus, the matches are run in real-time, meaning results aren't fixed before the whistle blows; it's about how you react as the game unfolds that can make or break the result. Do you sit back and try to defend a one-nil lead, or do you go all out for the second goal, but risk being hit on the counter-attack? These are the decisions that, for a manager, can make the difference between winning the league and getting the sack.

With more content than any LMA Manager game previously, LMA Manager 2007 will launch on Xbox 360 and PC in September, alongside the updated PlayStation 2 edition.

THQ today announced that the first multiplayer map-pack, “Collateral Damage,” for The Outfit is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace, adding explosive new content to the game’s intense multiplayer experience.

The WWII squad-based action title, from THQ’s internal studio Relic Entertainment, was the first to offer a pre-launch multiplayer demo for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and continues to utilize the full potential of Xbox Live online gaming network with the release of three all-new maps for The Outfit.

The map pack is currently available for download for 500 Microsoft Points and The Outfit is available at retail outlets nationwide for the suggested retail price of $59.99.

About The Outfit Map Pack

The Outfit’s critically acclaimed multiplayer action gets even more intense with the addition of three all-new maps now available for download on Xbox Live Marketplace.

The Collateral Damage Map Pack will include the Luftwaffe Finale, Bleak Mile and Eagle’s Nest maps, which all build on the fast-paced, explosive online game-play. With interactive and fully destructible environments, players have the freedom to shoot, blow up or demolish anything in their path. As players complete mission objectives and secure strategic points, they’ll gain field units (FUs) that can be used to order “Destruction on Demand” – air-dropped into the action at any time. Items available for purchase include tanks, half-tracks and other combat vehicles, machinegun nests and anti-tank emplacements, squad reinforcements, air strikes and artillery strikes. The multiplayer modes in The Outfit pit the Allies against the Axis, with three playable Axis leaders in addition to the three Allied heroes.

Map Editor, Update 1.04 now available for Star Wars: Empire at War
  [Category : Patches_News] [Posted by Bjorn on Wednesday, May 17 2006 @ 11:30 CET]
LucasArts and Petroglyph today announced the immediate availability of a Map Editor and Update 1.04 for Star Wars: Empire at War, the award-winning real-time strategy game and the #1 PC title in February/March 2006.

Now players have even more control in their bid to dominate the galaxy, with the ability to create both custom battle grounds and unique units to fight in their armies.

The Map Editor enables players to create both ground- and space-based skirmish maps from scratch, and also allows them to modify any of the existing game maps.

All of the terrain, space features, buildings, vehicles and characters from Star Wars: Empire at War are available in the Map Editor for players to develop custom maps. In addition, the download includes a bonus plug-in for 3D Studio Max™ that allows players to design their own unit models and import them for use on the maps.

The Map Editor is available now for download at FilePlanet.com. Please note that this is an unsupported tool and players will need to first download and install Update 1.04 before using custom maps created with the Map Editor.

Update 1.04 not only enables the optional Map Editor download and the use of custom maps, but also adds support for auto-downloading of maps. Players who need to download a custom map to play a particular multiplayer game will do so automatically when joining that game.
In addition, Update 1.04 implements numerous balance changes for both Rebel and Imperial units, and also corrects several issues, most notably one where capital ships would be invisible during space combat.

Update 1.04 is available at http://support.lucasarts.com/patches/EAW1_4.htm.

LucasArts announce Indiana Jones 2007 for next-gen
[Category : Multiplatform] [Posted by Bjorn on Monday, May 15 2006 @ 10:23 CET]
LucasArts announced @ E3 that they are currently working on the new "Indiana Jones 2007" (still a working title) for the next generation consoles. Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are confirmed.

Here are the full goods:

Description
Indiana Jones returns for his most incredible interactive expedition ever. Set in 1939, this epic, original Indy story - the first from LucasArts with direction from George Lucas - puts you in the fedora of the legendary adventure hero as he unravels the clues found in ancient artifacts spanning the globe. From San Francisco's Chinatown to the world's most sacred ground, Indy must use his fists, whip and trusty revolver to fight through ruthless opposition and piece together a mystery of biblical proportions.

Indiana Jones 2007 debuts the revolutionary new euphoria technology from NaturalMotion, which delivers never-before-seen lifelike action and awareness to every character in real time - so you'll never see the same thing twice. For the first time ever, euphoria enables interactive characters to move, act and even think like actual human beings, adapting their behavior on the fly and resulting in a different payoff every single time. This next-gen technology imbues Indy and his opponents with unparalleled environmental awareness and survival instincts. They'll stumble, then attempt to maintain their balance; brace themselves for falls, then get back up; and reach for nearby ledges when falling. Each action results in an authentic, varied performance every time.

With LucasArts' completely interactive Hot Set™ environments, every setting in Indiana Jones 2007 is open-ended and completely destructible in a way that only next-generation consoles can deliver. Use your wits and daring to make each spring-loaded environment a weapon as you dispense of foes in clever and unexpected ways. Also, embark upon thrilling chase sequences that remain true to the spirit established in scenes such as Indy's pursuit of the motorcade in Raiders of the Lost Ark, the mine-cart scene in The Temple of Doom, and the free-for-all aboard the tank in The Last Crusade.

More details on Killzone: Liberation for PSP
[Category : PSP] [Posted by Bjorn on Monday, May 15 2006 @ 10:19 CET]
Further to the announcement of Killzone: Liberation, developed exclusively for PSP by Guerrilla (now a member of Sony Worldwide Studios), Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) is now delighted to inform fans about some of the exciting new features planned for the game.

In order to maximize the PSP playing experience, Guerrilla has moved from a first person to a third person viewpoint. This new intelligent camera system always gives the player the best overview capturing all of the intense action, enabling the player to make tactical decisions before engaging in a firefight.

Killzone: Liberation stays true to the PlayStation2 version in atmosphere and all-out action. The player reprises the role of the battle hardened Templar (although other familiar characters appear, including Rico) as he attempts to save ISA hostages taken captive by the evil General Metrac and leads the battle to gain the liberation of Southern Vekta. The fight against the new, sinister General spans over 16 missions in a variety of new environments. The player will have to overcome all new Helghast enemies including bodyguards (complete with riot shield defence) and trained killer dogs. In turn, players will be able to utilise a wide range of weaponry including sniper rifles and a crossbow with explosive tipped arrows.

At specific points players will be able to use a new Tactical Command System to give orders to an AI buddy during frantic firefights. Killzone: Liberation also allows you to drive vehicles including tanks and hovercrafts to help defeat the powerful and intelligent enemy. Players can use the challenge games to sharpen their skills and earn new abilities.

Killzone: Liberation takes full advantage of the technical capabilities of the PSP hardware with its multiplayer functionality; two player co-op in campaign mode, (i.e. two players can team up and take on the single player game together) whilst up to six players can compete in ad-hoc mode in six multiplayer maps.

In addition, Killzone: Liberation will feature a Game Share mode, so PSP gamers yet to experience the intense Killzone universe will have the opportunity to sample the intense action and gripping gameplay.

You have stopped the Helghast once but the war is not over…now you must fight them again. Liberty hangs in the balance…

The amazing footage also revealed a variety of new Nintendo characters who will be playable in the game, including Meta Knight, the sword-wielding nemesis of Kirby; Pit, the angelic archer from Kid Icarus; Zero Suit Samus, the powerful Metroid series heroine minus her versatile armor; and Wario, who demonstrated a noxious attack of gastronomic proportions.

Nintendo also revealed that the game would include Snake, the gritty soldier from Konami's hugely popular Metal Gear series.

Nintendo issued the surprise announcement during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, which continues through May 12. Super Smash Bros. remains one of Nintendo's most popular franchises, both for its fun, over-the-top battles and because it brings the most popular characters in Nintendo's universe into one common setting.

The latest incarnation, Super Smash Bros. Melee, is the best-selling game of all time for Nintendo GameCube.

The beloved armored Arthur, with his renowned boxers in tow, charges onto the portable gaming scene as Capcom® today presented Ultimate Ghosts ‘n Goblins, an exciting side-scrolling action adventure game for the PSP.

Created by members of the original Ghost 'n Goblins team, the long awaited fourth installment to the favored franchise sees the triumphant return of valiant knight, Sir Arthur, as he must save the princess from the clutches of evil. Specifically recreated from the ground up, witness the evolution of the series with the inclusion of exciting upgrades and new gameplay features, all the while retaining the legendary qualities reminiscent to the property.

Ultimate Ghosts ‘n Goblins is scheduled for release throughout North America in Q3 2006.

In Ultimate Ghosts ‘n Goblins, Arthur’s heroic battle with the underworld was finally over and the entrance to the realm was sealed. So he thought. Time passes and unknowing to mankind, the dark lord has awaken from his slumber and kidnaps the princess in an effort to conquer the human world. Arthur must set off for the evil forest, the gateway to the underworld, to save the princess from imminent doom and keep the devil as well as his minions at bay. The excitement and intensity of the forerunner continues as our armored hero takes on this new challenge for the sake of humanity.

With the use of a 3D graphics engine, the Ultimate Ghosts ‘n Goblins world comes alive as effects, cutscenes, backgrounds and animations are given more depth and richer detail. Retaining the classic design of the series, several new facets have been created including a broader range of motion and control techniques. Now our hero has the capability to dash, double-jump, shoot up or down in a vertical fashion, grab onto ledges, etc. A new leveling system allows gamers to build up Arthur’s skills for more powerful magic abilities and attacks. With the addition of extra lives, death doesn’t mean starting from a check point but rematerializing where they left off. Also new to the series is the inclusion of three difficulty modes that will suit every experience level: Novice, Standard and Ultimate. With the introduction of these all-new settings, a wide range of players can now fully enjoy Arthur’s daring and unique world.

No longer just a linear experience, Ultimate Ghosts ‘n Goblins has plenty of branching sub-missions that will encourage players to explore their surroundings for a more open-ended experience. Gamers can save their progress along the way and revisit cleared stages at anytime to expose unexplored paths, concealed items or weapons to help conquer the challenges that lie ahead.
Capcom Announces Capcom Puzzle World For The PSP
[Category : PSP] [Posted by Bjorn on Thursday, May 11 2006 @ 9:06 CET]
Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today showcased Capcom® Puzzle World for the PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) system. Some of the best puzzle games in console history come together to form one of the most highly anticipated compilations to hit the gaming scene. This collection is adorned with five amazing titles including the cult classic Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo®, Block Block, and the three-in-one Buster Bros. Collection. Making every gaming session as unique as the player, Capcom Puzzle World is the first PSP system title to offer personalization features that will heighten the experience. The game is further enhanced with wireless multiplayer gameplay via the PSP system’s ad hoc mode for non-stop fun anytime, anyplace with anyone. Capcom Puzzle World is scheduled for release throughout North America in Q4 2006.

Capcom Puzzle World provides gem busting mayhem at its best with the cult hit, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo. This time around, in addition to the renowned Super Puzzle Fighter II: X gem breaking mode, two new never-before-released-in-the-US gameplay modes will be added to increase the level of addictiveness. Super Puzzle Fighter II: Y has player’s group similar colors to create groups of three or more. Once the colors are line up, they break and charge up the “Change Gem” meter creating furious chains for come-from-behind wins! With the Super Puzzle Fighter II: Z mode, the rules are the same as X, but instead of falling blocks, the play field raises and the first one to the top loses. The key to victory is rotating the gems already on the field by using a 2x2 marker to clear the blocks. Gamers can also create custom attack patterns in Counter Gem Edit Mode and hone their skills in Training Mode.

Block Block is an innovative twist to the block breaking genre. Released for the arcades in 1990, Block Block features a two player co-op mode, allowing for the cooperative destruction of blocks. Also unique to this title was the constantly shrinking paddle that forced player to finish each board as quickly as possible.

Originally released for the PlayStation game console, the Buster Bros. Collection is a simple yet extremely addictive three-games-in-one puzzle shooter that consists of Buster Bros, Super Buster Bros and Buster Buddies. An arcade hit, Buster Bros has one or twoplayers navigating through over 50 timed environmental stages shooting all the bubbles on screen while avoiding contact. Super Buster Bros is an updated version of its predecessor with improved graphics and the inclusion of “Panic Mode” which added 99 levels of feverish action. Buster Buddies was the last version of the series to be released in the arcades, featuring four original characters, different stages and more bonus items.

All the games in Capcom Puzzle World have been retouched and updatedto conform to the PSP system’s 16x9 widescreen aspect ratio. As unique as the games themselves, this latest compilation is the first PSP system title to feature a screenshot mode that allows gamers to take a snap shot of their victory. Also import personal pictures into Capcom Puzzle World to be used as game backgrounds for all three Buster Bros. games. Moreover, infiltrate a friend’s game by virally uploading high scores onto their handheld. With an intuitive ad hoc multiplayer mode, one or two players can face off in gem breaking pandemonium or team up for frantic bubble busting fun.
Warcraft movie in the works
  [Category : General_News] [Posted by Bjorn on Thursday, May 11 2006 @ 9:01 CET]
Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. and Legendary Pictures today announced that they have entered into an agreement to develop a live-action film based on Blizzard Entertainment®'s award-winning Warcraft® universe. Based on the terms of the agreement, Legendary Pictures has acquired the movie rights for the best-selling game universe, and both companies are now focused on translating the high-quality Warcraft entertainment experience to the big screen.

"We searched for a very long time to find the right studio for developing a movie based on one of our game universes," said Paul Sams, chief operating officer of Blizzard Entertainment. "Many companies approached us in the past, but it wasn't until we met with Legendary Pictures that we felt we'd found the perfect partner. They clearly share our high standards for creative development, and because they understand the vision that we've always strived for with our Warcraft games, we feel there isn't a better studio out there for bringing the Warcraft story to film."

"One of our goals at Legendary Pictures has been to bring heroic stories to life in groundbreaking ways, and it's inspiring to work with a company such as Blizzard that takes that approach with each of its products," stated Legendary Pictures chairman and CEO Thomas Tull. "The Warcraft universe is possessed of such a rich mythology and, as such, serves as an ideal platform as we go about translating that universe into what we intend to be a major event film."

Blizzard's Warcraft games have developed a loyal following since the series debuted in 1994. Warcraft II: Tides of DarknessTM, released in 1995, won multiple Game of the Year awards and is still considered one of the best games ever made, and Warcraft III: Reign of ChaosTM broke multiple sales records when it launched in 2002. World of Warcraft®, Blizzard's latest entry in the critically acclaimed franchise, has quickly become one of the world's most popular online games, with more than 6 million paying customers worldwide.

"From our first Warcraft game to our latest novels, our intention has always been to develop a rich fantasy universe that could support stories and products in many forms," stated Chris Metzen, Blizzard Entertainment's vice president of creative development. "In addition to being a truly rewarding experience for us, the creation of this motion picture also feels like a natural next step for the Warcraft universe."

"It's not always the case that interactive game properties lend themselves to proper adaptation to film," said Jon Jashni, Legendary Pictures' chief creative officer. "We are intending to approach this as we would the adaptation of a best-selling novel: respect the essence of all that it is but also build upon that fertile base while translating it into a new medium."

Further details about the upcoming Warcraft movie, including director, cast, and targeted release date, will be revealed in the months ahead.

2006 will see Konami taking Pro Evolution Soccer 6 to a number of new formats as demand for the much-loved football title continues to grow at a phenomenal pace. In addition to the customary PlayStation 2, PC-DVD and PSPTM (PlayStation®Portable) versions of the game, Konami will also be releasing the first versions for Xbox 360 and Nintendo's DS handheld.

The Pro Evolution Soccer series is renowned for its realism, and Pro Evolution Soccer 6 is abundant with new gameplay additions. Similarly, the physical side of play has been refined, with players working to turn a defender as they receive the ball, while defenders must learn to stand off slightly to prevent such moves.

Series creator Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka has also worked to refine the shooting system of the new game, and players will be able to attempt more snap shots than in previous versions, while volleys and half-volleys have been redesigned. Other new moves include the ability to retain control of the ball when sliding in to tackle, while all-new feints and backwards dribbling are now available thanks to the improved dribbling controls, while headers have been changed to allow players more movement in the way their strikers jump and head the ball.

Pro Evolution Soccer 6 also has a number of new teams licensed for inclusion, with the International roster now featuring the official kits for Argentina, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Sweden. Details on official club teams and more national squads will follow.

Other new additions include more balanced referees, and a selection of exciting new gameplay modes. The first handheld title in the legendary horror series, Silent Hill Origins uses the PSPTM to tell an original story with disturbing graphics and all-new gameplay elements. Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has used the E3 gaming event in Los Angeles to unveil Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops – an all-new action title in Hideo Kojima's legendary Metal Gear Solid series, for the PSP (PlayStation®Portable).

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops redefines the stealth action genre for handheld gaming systems with an original storyline that follows from the events of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and boasts ground-breaking online play that lets gamers recruit comrades to form a unique fighting force.

The single-player campaign of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops follows the events of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, as Naked Snake establishes FOXHOUND in an attempt to hunt down the treacherous FOX unit, which has started a bloody revolt in South America. Set in 1970, the game will be the missing link in the ongoing Metal Gear saga, as players will learn more about returning characters such as Para-Medic, Major Zero and Sigint and also witness Naked Snake's greatest tragedy – a loss that sets into motion the events of later games in the Metal Gear Solid timeline.

Using an intuitive new third-person camera that is optimised for handheld play, gamers will be able to see more of Snake's surroundings, identifying threats while also targeting the best areas for sneaking and hiding. Through the wireless capabilities of the PSP system, players can also search for volunteer soldiers via wireless access points.

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has today announced Elebits (working title) for the Wii (formerly code named Revolution). An original action title for Nintendo's Next Generation video game system, Elebits lets players use the unique Wii controller to search for and capture the small, mischievous creatures of the title.

Mysterious and tiny creatures, the titular Elebits have been the source of the world's power for the past 10,000 years. In the game world, there are no such things as gas, coal, or nuclear power. Instead, there are many different breeds of Elebits, each with their own unique look and personality. While humans and Elebits have always lived in harmony, these friendly beings love to cause trouble, and it's up to players to track them down and put an end to their mischief.

Taking advantage of the unique functionality of the Wii controller, Elebits allows players to interact with their environment in all-new ways as they search for the power-generating creatures. Using a futuristic device, players can push, pull, lift and throw anything they come across to discover secret hiding places and obstruct escape paths for the Elebits. Players can also devise their own strategy to round up the stray Elebits, using stealth to sneak up on them or creating noise to scare them out of concealed areas. As players capture Elebits and harness their power-generating abilities, numerous options and additional opportunities unfold to find even more Elebits in the ever-changing environment.

"The Wii's innovative controller allows us to explore new game concepts that were not previously possible, and Elebits reflects this new freedom of design with gameplay that is easy for gamers of all ages to enjoy," explained Hans-Joachim Amann, Head of European Product Management for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH.
