More news on Revolution from Nintendo's President
[Category : Revolution] [Posted by Bjorn on Friday, March 24 2006 @ 18:08 CET]
Nintendo President Satoru Iwata today challenged a crowd of game developers to think differently and take a fresh approach to the creation of video games. During his keynote address at the Game Developers Conference in San Jose, Calif., Iwata said Nintendo will provide developers with the tools they need to disrupt the traditional methods of game creation, much as the company already has.

These tools include the controller for Nintendo's next home console (code-named Revolution), which lets users control the action on their television screens through the motion of the controller itself. The controller lets game developers create new kinds of gaming experiences, ones that enhance the experience for hard-core gamers while making video games more accessible and less intimidating to novices. The new forms of innovative software that can be created by any size developer will be made available for download via Revolution's Virtual Console service.

Iwata also announced partnerships with Sega and Hudson to offer downloadable access to their classic games via Revolution's Virtual Console. Revolution owners will be able to relive their past gaming glories from the Sega Genesis console by playing a "best of" selection from more than 1,000 Genesis titles, as well as games sold for the TurboGrafx console (a system jointly developed by NEC and Hudson). These games join Revolution's access to 20 years of fan-favorite Nintendo games from the NES®, Super NES® and Nintendo® 64 eras.

Iwata also revealed for the first time that a new game called The Legend of Zelda®: Phantom Hourglass would be released for Nintendo DS later this year.

New Super Mario Bros for the DS !
  [Category : Nintendo_DS] [Posted by Bjorn on Wednesday, March 15 2006 @ 11:32 CET]
Mario is not only back for an all new adventure, but he is also rediscovering his roots in the first side-scrolling Super Mario Bros adventure since Super Mario World. Fans of all ages will get to experience the perfect fusion of old and new as New SUPER MARIO BROS. launches across Europe for the Nintendo DS in early summer 2006.

All Mario fans have fond memories of the franchise's original 2D roots. Now some 20 years after the world was first wowed by a small moustached plumber, our hero is returning in an all-new platform adventure. New SUPER MARIO BROS. is an entirely new adventure, in which our heroes must once again travel across the Mushroom Kingdom to rescue Princess Peach from the scaly clutches of Bowser and his minions.

New SUPER MARIO BROS. features huge vivid 2D worlds inspired by those from the classic Mario adventures, but combined with beautifully rendered 3D characters which almost seem to jump out of the screen. Each world has a different theme and features multiple levels, which must be completed before progressing to the next one. Players must also master each world's mini fortress and beat a boss character before they can progress onto the next world. Only after defeating all of the bosses will a character be ready to take on the ultimate challenge of Bowser himself.

All this fun is too good not to share. Thanks to a host of multiplayer options players can enjoy the adventures with up to four players. Two players can battle it out wirelessly as they compete to collect stars on specially designed stages. In this mode the game continues until one Mario brother reaches the star limit for the stage. Up to four players can also take part in a selection of touch-screen mini-games with only one game cartridge thanks to DS Download Play.

New SUPER MARIO BROS. launches across Europe on the Nintendo DS in early summer 2006 for the estimated retail price of around £30.

Princess Peach is coming to your DS!
  [Category : Nintendo_DS] [Posted by Bjorn on Monday, March 13 2006 @ 17:26 CET]
On 26th May 2006 appearances are going to be deceptive, as Super Princess Peach fires her way into Europe exclusively on Nintendo DS. At first glance Peach definitely looks like a gentle girly kind of girl, with her bright pink dress, long white gloves and sun umbrella. Don't let that fool you though, because when Mario and his friends are kidnapped, Peach sets out to save the day and she means business!

Up to no good as usual, Bowser has stolen a magical 'Vibe Wand' and has used it to capture Mario and Luigi. With a bold rescue mission in mind Princess Peach sets out to Bowser's castle on Vibe Island. However, upon arriving she finds herself affected by the magic of the island and is able to turn her emotions into powerful weapons to help on her quest.

Super Princess Peach is a classic 2D platform game, featuring vividly colourful worlds and enemies reminiscent of those seen in the Super Mario Bros. series. However, Peach has a few tricks up her sleeves thanks to her new Vibe powers. Using the Nintendo DS touch-screen, players can use these abilities to interact with the environment. Joy creates a small cyclone of happiness, which Peach can both wield as a weapon and use to lift herself up to previously inaccessible platforms. When pushed too far our heroine can use her Rage to burn through enemies and wood barriers. She can also use Gloom to burst into tears causing plants to grow and making her invincible. Finally if things get a little too hot players can use Peach's Calm ability to take a time-out to regenerate health.

Super Princess Peach will ignite onto the Nintendo DS across Europe from 26th May 2006 for the estimated retail price of around £30.
Metroid Prime Hunters coming in May
  [Category : Nintendo_DS] [Posted by Bjorn on Monday, March 13 2006 @ 17:25 CET]
The wait for the interstellar bounty-hunters, and gaming's toughest heroine is finally over as Metroid Prime Hunters launches across Europe on 5th May 2006. This game features touch-screen controls, Wi-Fi game play, a fully-fledged single player 3D first person shooter mode as well as an extensive online multiplayer first person shooter mode. For the first time on a Nintendo DS game, Metroid Prime Hunters include wireless voice chat technology allowing players to talk with friends before and after battle, whilst using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and microphone, wherever they are in the world.

Raised by an ancient alien race, Samus is the galaxy's top bounty hunter, utilising her advanced Varia suit to give her near super-human powers and using an arm mounted cannon to blast her way past any opposition. Now Samus has been hired by the Galactic Federation to recover powerful alien artefacts before deadly bounty hunters get their hands on them. In space there's no law and no back up, Samus will have to use all of her skills to return alive.

Featuring some of the most advanced 3D graphics for a held-held system, playing Metroid Prime Hunters brings you the great graphics seen in Metroid Prime on Nintendo GameCube with the added benefit of it being on a portable handheld system. The vast single-player mode in Metroid Prime Hunters is among one of the most exciting seen on a hand-held console to date and the game can also proudly claim to be the first multiplayer first person shooter to grace a hand-held system. While playing, the fast-paced seamless levels are displayed with perfect clarity on the top Nintendo DS screen, while a map and radar showing enemy locations is visible on the bottom.

Prepare for the ultimate space mission as Metroid Prime Hunters goes on sale across Europe on 5th May 2006 at the estimated retail price of around £30.

Runaway 2: The dream of the turtle announced for PC
[Category : PC] [Posted by Bjorn on Friday, March 10 2006 @ 15:41 CET]
For some obscure reason, England is the only country in which the first adventures of Brian & Gina in "Runaway: A Road Adventure" were not released. But adventure fans can now rest assured, the long awaited second episode "Runaway: The Dream of the Turtle" will be distributed in the UK by Ascaron.

Released in 2002, Runaway brought back the success of the point & click adventure game genre. A true heir of the adventure game golden era, Runaway's modern design and tone, unique graphic style, humour and farfetched puzzles made it a huge success with over 600 000 PC units sold in Europe.

Aware of the expectations a sequel to Brian & Gina's adventures would trigger a few years after the first release, Pendulo Studios has taken its time to develop and improve this new episode called The Dream of the Turtle. The team has worked hard with a very clear and precise objective: to make the game better than the original in every way and offer an even funnier and captivating gaming experience.

Players will be able to explore more than 100 different places across the globe, throughout the 6 extensive chapters of this new adventure. In Alaska, Hawaii, under the sea or up in the sky, in the middle of a hostile jungle or on board a huge yacht, you will experience an unforgettable adventure in a rich and varied environment. Pendulo Studios has come up with many juicy puzzles and exciting challenges which can be solved more or less easily depending on the player's level.

With Runaway 2, Pendulo Studios succeeds once again in offering a detailed and polished universe without spoiling the game's cartoon style which gives the game its unquestionable charm, offering many technical improvements thanks to its evolved engine and special effects.

Humour will abound in this adventure filled with allusions and references to movies, comics and video games. Runaway is a true comedy with a hilarious tone, plenty of jokes and some quite fantastic puzzles to solve.

Runaway: The Dream of the Turtle will be available for PC in the third quarter 2006.

Runestone Game Development announced today that Seed, its upcoming genre-shattering massively multiplayer game, will officially launch on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006.

Runestone has afforded the testing stage slightly more time to improve player experiences for load and connectivity.

"The testing of the title thus far has been a great success, and we have our testers and hard working development team to thank," said Lars Kroll Kristensen, CEO. "Although we are slightly pushing our original release date, the extra month will ensure that we have ample time to now pay our full attention to the story engine and NPC interaction experience."

Runestone has focused on making the NPCs varied and interesting to work with. All NPCs in Seed have their own behaviors, motivations and goals, powered by a sophisticated AI engine with distinct emotion, knowledge, and event response systems. They remember, and they judge. The NPCs have been paired with a unique template story system that creates stories according to the playing style and role of each player.

"We are taking every step to make sure Seed is a high-quality game," continued Kristensen, "and we feel that this short delay will help ensure that we're able to present a solid gaming experience to our loyal community."
