SEGA Europe will pubish Project Rub on Nintendo DS
 [Category :
] [Posted by Bjorn on Tuesday, December 21 2004 @ 14:13 CET]
SEGA Europe Ltd, today announced the release of its landmark, highly–stylised launch title for the Nintendo DS System, Project RubTM. Developed by SONIC TEAM, this could arguably be what Tetris was to Game BoyTM for the innovative new platform. With touch and blow games, Project RubTM utilises all that the Nintendo DS has to offer and is the perfect way to show off all the quirky elements that make it so exceptional.
Known as Kimi no Tame Nara Shineru in Japan (Feel the MagicTM XY/XX in the US), Project RubTM makes full use of the unique control system of the Nintendo DS, a characteristic rarely seen in a launch title for any platform. Merging cutting-edge artistic style through the use of silhouette images with gameplay to die for, Project Rub should win you over in a heartbeat.
"Nintendo's ability to weave magic into their infinitely playable and enduring gaming properties has been successfully married with SEGA's ability to consistently pioneer stylish and unique games in Project Rub. An enticing proposition and a title that is a truly unique treat for the first wave of Nintendo DS owners. Project Rub pushes and utilises all that this ground-breaking new handheld has to offer," commented Mike Hayes, Managing Director of SEGA Europe Ltd.
Project RubTM requires the player to switch between control methods, using the touch-sensitive second screen and microphone - switching between the Nintendo DS stylus, screaming, and even blowing to control the actions of the character. Players will also use the stylus to prod goldfish from a man's stomach, or rigorously rub the screen to save the mysterious 'Rub Rabbits' from disappearing beneath some quicksand.
Players find themselves in the shoes of a young man smitten at first sight with a jaw-dropping babe. Too shy to simply ask her out, our hero recruits the services of the Rub Rabbits, to help to win her affection.
Like nothing you've ever played before, every new control method of the Nintendo DS is required. Through the touch screen players will save the girl from rampaging bulls, a swarm of evil bees and even divert a yacht on a collision course.
Project Rub is scheduled to launch on the same day as the Nintendo DS in Q1 2005.
Resident Evil 4 launches on the GameCube
 [Category :
] [Posted by Bjorn on Tuesday, December 21 2004 @ 14:12 CET]
Prepare for the scare of your life as Capcom's survival horror Resident Evil 4 launches on 18th March 2005, only on Nintendo GameCube. This latest incarnation will join 14 previous Resident Evil titles, which have so far sold over 25 million copies world-wide.
Heralded as the creator of the survival horror genre, Resident Evil 4 takes things a step further by not only revolutionising the series, but by re-inventing the action game genre. Taking place years after the T-virus outbreak, the storyline and gameplay structure have dramatically changed to allow more emphasis on action. Players move through the game as Special Agent Leon S. Kennedy who is on a top secret mission. His investigation into the abduction of the President's daughter has led him to a mysterious location in Europe. As Leon encounters all new unimaginable horrors, he must find out who or what is behind this new nightmare.
The atmosphere has been greatly enhanced in Resident Evil 4 thanks to a new control method and intuitive camera. Gone are the signature fixed camera positions that gamers will be familiar with. Now the camera follows closely behind the player, allowing for more intuitive movement and shooting, which is enhanced with the newly added aim and shoot mechanic.
Certain moves are now only a single button press away thanks to the innovative action button. Players will be able to perform a selection of actions including kick, jump, dodge or even swim by pressing a certain button quickly after being prompted to do so on screen. This adds to the adrenalin-fuelled excitement of the game, keeping players on the edge of their seats.
The menacing enemies we are all familiar with have been replaced with a new darker breed of evil. Enhanced enemy AI (Artificial Intelligence) means that the enemies are faster, smarter and more dangerous than ever before. Instead of automatically appearing at a certain point, creatures will now stalk you, waiting until you are at your most vulnerable to attack. The new camera mode adds to the excitement as you can no longer see what is creeping up behind you until it is too late.
Things become even more creepy and atmospheric as you progress deeper into the game. The breathtaking graphics and effects give the game a deeper sense of realism than ever seen before on any home console. Coupled with chilling sound effects and creepy background music, Resident Evil 4 will reduce you to a quivering bundle of nerves in no time at all.
Get ready to turn down the lights, crank up the surround sound and immerse yourself in 2005's most atmospheric game yet. You are in for a frighteningly good time!
Resident Evil 4 will launch on the Nintendo GameCube in the UK on 18th March 2005 at the estimated retail price of around Ł40. Nintendo of Europe will distribute this game in Europe and Capcom is the Publisher.

Black Bean is proud to announce the signing of a pan-European publishing deal for "Stalingrad" on the PC format. The deal was signed with the Moscow based publisher 1C Company. "Stalingrad" is being developed by DTF Games and uses a modified version of the game engine used in the successful game "Blitzkrieg", which was noted for the realism of its combat scenes. The battle for Stalingrad was fought out during the harsh Russian winter between 19th August 1942 and 2nd February 1943, and is generally considered to be one of the turning points of World War II.
"The developers have gained access to a wealth of historical documents and have made great use of these to ensure an accurate reconstruction of the city and the events of the battle", said Davide Bordegoni, Product Manager. "The player can choose between two detailed campaigns, taking command of the Wehrmacht as they launch repeated attacks in order to conquer the city, or lead the Red Army in their desperate, but ultimately successful, defence".
"We are delighted with the quality and commercial potential of "Stalingrad", added Marco Minoli, Marketing Manager of Black Bean, "and we are looking forward to a strong partnership with 1C Company moving forward".
"Stalingrad" will be released on PC CD.Rom in March 2005, in English, German, French, Spanish & Italian and will feature extra content both on the CD and in the accompanying booklet.

The international release of the racing simulation GTR – FIA GT Racing Game, in Germany already a multiple award-winning success, is scheduled for the beginning of 2005.
Due to continuous advancements in development of the product within recent months, publisher 10tacle studios AG and developer Simbin can announce several enhancements as well as additional features for the upcoming version.
The absolute highlight is the newly integrated "Proximus 24 hours of Spa" race. Five completely new racing car models such as Gillet Vertigo Streiff, Seat Toledo GT or Mosler MT900 from totally 16 new opponents as well as semi-dynamic changes from daylight to nighttime create additional fun on the race track. During dusk or nighttime the race cars take the famous “Eau Rouge Passage” with breathtaking speed, creating spectacular headlight effects at all camera angles. Of course, the AI reacts to the changing circumstances and adjusts the speed to the limited visibility conditions. Never before has it been so impressive to drive a race car through the night.
In addition to the new features, the final version is also equipped with several product enhancements. Due to a new save-settings function, the single-player mode can be put on hold and the race resumed at a later point in time. The display of special effects has been fine-tuned, as well as the damage model, thus creating an even more realistic effect overall. New modifications have been added to the multi-player mode, providing for the required server stability in the one-on-one duel situation.
PlayDevil.com reviews Rocky Legends

Oh boy another in-depth review is done and is already online. We are taking a closer look on UbiSofts latest boxing game, "Rocky Legends.
Our reviewer Nico took days and weeks to explore the whole game and came up with the following details:The Career mode will be the most appealing mode for almost everybody since you'll have to climb as high as you can on the contenders table. And this can only be done by selecting your fights and winning them. It's really simple though. The fighters or lets say boxers that will cross your path have absolutely nothing to do with the actual storyline of the game but it will help you to build your abilities of your own boxer up so you can win a match against the higher opponents.
Read PlayDevil.com's review of Rocky Legends here.
A quick note on what we are working at this moment. Half Life 2 review is in the works, so is another review for the X-Box. A hardware review of Ideazons Z-Board is also being made as I write this down and should be online next week!

The world's number one plumber is back and this time it will be Game, Set and Match to Mario as he volleys onto the Nintendo GameCube in Mario Power Tennis on 25th February 2005.
Mario Power Tennis is an arcade style tennis game giving players a chance to hit the courts as one of their favourite Nintendo characters, including all time greats like Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Donkey Kong. Players are spoilt for choice with a starting line-up of 14 characters to choose from and over 8 different courts to play on. This is a great pick-up-and-play game that players of all ages will love.

The craziness doesn't end there either as each court has its very own hazards to avoid. On DK Jungle Court, Kremlins will grab onto players to slow them down, while on Luigi's Haunted Mansion court ghosts drop banana skins and steal the ball.

Players in this mode can unlock a variety of new characters, extra mini games and courses.
Character choice is an essential part of victory in this game. Not only do the different characters each have varying strength, reach and speed, but they also have a selection of special moves to get them out of sticky situations. Each character as two special moves, one for offence and one for defence which can be charged up during games. The game can also be enjoyed with or without the special moves as you wish!

Hidden cups and extra characters can also be unlocked by completing single player modes.
Multi player mode lets up to four players battle it out in singles and doubles matches making this game fun to play solo or with all of your friends. Additional characters will become available in multiplayer mode once they are unlocked in the single player game.

POSTAL 2 shares the pain on Mac

"If we don't get banned somewhere each week, I start to feel that maybe we aren't doing our job," Vince Desi, head of RWS once admitted to a reporter regarding the POSTAL videogame franchise.
By those standards, the creators of POSTAL, Running With Scissors have had an incredible week.
"The company that brought us the famous '1984' Superbowl commercial has obviously become Big Brother," remarked Desi. "The Mac market is regarded as the most mature, sophisticated demographic in the home computer world. But Apple obviously doesn't feel its users should be able to make their own choices when it comes to the software they buy for their Macs.
"Our fans are our secret weapon," maintained the unsinkable Vince Desi. "It's always been our philosophy to support our fans first, and we will continue to deal directly with them." POSTAL 2: Share The Pain for Mac features both single and multi-player modes and of course the infamous Gary Coleman.
Last week the game loaded with mature humor and political 'in'-correctness was offered to Apple for sale in its retail outlets but Apple passed, so the Running With Scissors online store is the sole source from which Mac users can obtain the most notorious video game in the history of electronic entertainment.
To top things off, in the same week POSTAL 2 was banned by the government of New Zealand (which permits both the GTA and Soldier of Fortune games to be sold freely). "Who's gonna be next to ban us? I have no idea but I have no doubt it will happen again" said the ever faithful God fearing Desi.
Sonic Creator Yuji Naka loves speed!

Yuji Naka, famed creator of Sonic, takes a SEGA-branded Lotus to the raceway.
A little-known fact: Apart from being creator of one of the best-loved games characters of all times, Sonic the Hedgehog, Yuji Naka also loves racing powerful sports cars. He proved it in round six of the Kumho Tyres Lotus Championship in Tasmania in November.
While he didn't quite take any chequered flags, Naka-san certainly proved he's a driver to be reckoned with, competing as he was with seasoned experts. Reports from the day attested to the fact, saying he and two other Japanese guest drivers "performed admirably, settling into the rhythm of the Kumho Tyres Lotus Trophy in no time".
But while Sonic's been racing around our homes for nearly 15 years, his dad Naka-san isn't new to high speeds either. He's been racing Ferraris and Lotuses for around four years now, including at Japan's renowned Susuka track.

New publisher for Restricted Area

Whiptail Interactive has secured the rights to publish German developer Master Creating's eagerly anticipated action RPG, Restricted Area, on a worldwide basis with the exception of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the former Eastern Block countries. Commenting on the deal, Master Creating's creative director, Jan Beuck offered, "After Restricted Area's extraordinary success in Germany, we are thrilled to be working with such a great partner as Whiptail Interactive for the game's international release. We're also very excited regarding the feedback from gamers worldwide about this game!" Whiptail's Publishing director, Chris Warrender, commented, "Having received five nominations at this year's German Developer Awards, this deal further secures Whiptail Interactive's reputation for bringing innovative and exciting games to the world's gamers. Restricted Area is already a hot title in Germany, our job is made that much easier as a publisher in releasing the title to an eager gaming community."
This is the second PC CD-ROM licensing deal Whiptail Interactive has signed in the past month. The company secured the rights to German developer, NuclearVision's new first person shooter, Psychotoxic, in October. Warrender added, "Some may raise an eyebrow at Whiptail signing two titles in such a short space of time but it's merely a reflection of the state of the industry over the past few months. We tend to sign games that are within 6 months of release or already released in a territory and need localisation. There just haven't been that many games available to sign that fit our requirements until Psychotoxic and Restricted Area came along."
Psychotoxic is slated for a March 2005 release with Restricted Area following a month later.
King of Fighters games comin' to Europe

It's great news for continental gamers, as Ignition Entertainment announces The King Of Fighters: Maximum Impact is to come to Europe. This latest 3D iteration of SNK's most famous fighting franchise will be available with a bonus "Making of..." DVD in February '05, with a SRP of Ł39.99 for PlayStation 2.
Maximum Impact is the first time King of Fighters has gone 3D. Whilst three-dimensional versions of two-dimensional games can often fail to capture the spirit of the originals, KOFMI fuses next-generation visuals with the traditional fighting style of King of Fighters to create a game fans of the series will instantly feel at home with.
The key to this is the furious speed combined with KOF's fighting system, which has evolved over the last 10 years into the most perfect form of console combat. This has been integrated into a three-dimensional arena in which dramatic combos, breathtaking specials and awe-inspiring special abilities can be pulled off with glorious aplomb.
More than that, it has a re-jigged combo system that brings the world of KOF to the masses. Settings can be adjusted and additional presses assigned to various keys for those not confident – or skilful – enough to pull off a succession of quick-fire combos.
The King of Fighters series going 3D is a historic moment, and as such SNK are giving away a special bonus DVD with the title that shows the making of this seminal title, among other extras. A chance to see inside the minds of the creators, this limited edition disc is a sure-fire treat for any King of Fighters fans.
Maximum Impact features tons of new characters and gameplay modes alongside an option to enable the original Japanese voices, to create the authentic Eastern experience. The PAL release boasts full 60hz compatibility, for those with suitable hardware.
PlayDevil.com reviews Soldiers: Heroes of WWII

We have just posted our impressions (review) on Codemasters' latest World War II Real Time Strategy game, "Soldiers: Heroes of World War II".
Our reviewer Jochen took the time to fully review this new RTS game.
His thoughts about this game can be read here.
Here's also a snip from the actual review:Things start heat up. A Panzer tank joins the battle as it sends some high-explosive shells into the ruins. Walls collapse around us and we have to get the wounded soldiers to the extraction point. Then the game surprises me again ! An enemy soldier throws a grenade, but it bounces off the wall missing it's target completely. The explosion blows a hole in the back wall of the room in which were trapped. That will be our escape route.
Special Metal Gear Acid 3: Snake Eater for PAL fans!!
 [Category :
] [Posted by Bjorn on Thursday, December 2 2004 @ 19:00 CET]
Konami of Europe has announced that the forthcoming PAL versions of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will include an extensive array of gameplay features not seen in the Japanese and US versions.
Scheduled for release on PlayStation 2 in March 2005, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater represents a new standard in stealth action titles and is already one of the most anticipated games of the year. For the game, series creator and Director Hideo Kojima has moved away from the urban environments of the game's predecessors and has created a lush jungle setting, while the new game also acts as a prequel to the previous games with a 1960s Cold War setting.
As befits a new Metal Gear Solid title, Kojima has packed the game with a wealth of new gameplay features. These range from a 'Camouflage Index' wherein players can change Solid Snake's costume to match the surrounding area and help evade discovery, through to a stunning CQC (Close Quarters Combat) system, to allow for the most advanced hand-to-hand combat techniques yet. However, and in keeping with the Director's history of adding plentiful exclusive content to PAL editions, European gamers will get more Snake for their money than their US and Japanese counterparts.
The PAL versions of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will thus feature a new 'DUEL MODE' which allows players to play through the game's 'Boss Fights' independently, showcasing the rich variety of adversaries Snake faces during the course of the game. A 'DEMO THEATRE' has also been created, and can be used to play the game's stunning link sequences in order to enjoy the many dramatic plot twists in order.
Kojima is also planning a number of other PAL-exclusive features for Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, more of which will be announced in the run up to the game's launch.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will be released for PlayStation 2 in March 2005.
BIG Pre-Orders for Gizmondo

] [Posted by Bjorn on Thursday, December 2 2004 @ 18:58 CET]
Gizmondo Europe Ltd today confirmed pre-order figures following the first TV teaser campaign, which began airing on terrestrial, satellite and cable across Europe in the last couple of weeks.
Over 560,000 pre-orders have been recorded since the new official website www.Gizmondo.com went live on 29th October. The majority of pre-orders originated from outside the UK, apparently from early adopters trying to purchase units ahead of the US and pan-European roll outs, scheduled for Q1 2005 - further evidence of mounting anticipation across the globe.
Niclas Hermansson, Ogilvy Interactive, says: "Online activity has been increasing. We're now recording over 250,000 unique sessions a week on the website, and have had up to 500,000 hits a day. There were over 40,000 unique sessions recorded within two minutes of the first TV ad being aired."
"This is a fantastic affirmation of interest in Gizmondo," said Carl Freer, Managing Director of Gizmondo, "We believe that realistically at least a half of these pre-orders will move to retail sales as availability in the stores ramps up in each territory. Nevertheless, these numbers bode extremely well for Gizmondo."
The Gizmondo device and its games are currently launching in the UK during the fourth quarter 2004, and in Continental Europe and North American markets during the first quarter 2005. The Company cannot project the ultimate number of orders it may receive for the device.
Note: we already reserved our Gizmondo device when it will be launched here in Europe. So expect a full hardware review on the Gizmondo as soon as it is for sale!

New movies of Lineage II Chronicle 2: Age of Splendor

Hot on the heels of the recent European release, NCsoft has released two Lineage II movies highlighting the new in-game gambling features coming out with the soon-to-be-available update, Chronicle 2: Age of Splendor.
One movie demonstrates a dice game going on between players. The second movie shows the monster races, in which players can bet on which monster will finish first. Also, there is a screen shot available showing Lineage II's new lottery game that is available for players. In all of the gaming systems, Lineage II players can use in game money, called "adena," to place wagers or purchase lottery tickets. With the winnings they can purchase upgraded weapons, armor, magic spells or any of the in-game items available in the game's markets.
(MMORPG), Lineage.
In-game gambling details:
Race Track
For fans of betting on horse races, Lineage II now has a race track of its own. But instead of horses, the races are between monsters. So imagine an eight lane track with unicorns, wild animals, beasts and various objects running against each other, and where the winning creature pays off in golden adena to those who choose correctly.
The races take place every 30 minutes during daylight hours in the game. Twenty minutes before the race, players can review the monster's names, racing histories and track conditions, then purchase a ticket for the monster they hope will win. The number of ticket buyers and the pay-out rates will determine the amount of adena that the winners will divide up. It is very similar to "parimutuel" betting popular at horse race tracks around the world.
Also, there are two ways for players to bet, either by selecting a single winner or by selecting two monsters to finish first and second regardless of order. The second betting method is called a "quinnella bet" at a real-world race track.
Lottery
The in-game lottery is Lineage II's version of running numbers. It is a five number lottery that occurs several times a week in real-time. Players can win the lottery if they match as few as two numbers and winners who select all five numbers collect 60 percent of the pot of adena collected from lottery ticket sales.
More info on their official website.
