Rising Star Games today announced that it has snapped up the DS version of a cult snowboarding racer, Snowboard Kids. SBK: Snow Board Kids, to give it its full title, is the first new game announced for Rising Star's bustling 2006 release schedule, taking the young publisher's output in a new direction whilst sticking to its remit of bringing distinctive Japanese games to the European market.
SBK: Snow Board Kids follows on from previous versions of the game, which combined downhill snowboarding action with Mario Kart-style dynamics to create a uniquely dynamic hybrid with a distinct emphasis on trick-happy fun.
Players take to the slopes with one of six cute and charming characters, racing to the finish along impressively detailed courses whilst attempting to maximise scores and generate income by performing whatever tricks they can along the way. Competition is intensified with a strategic distribution of powerups around the courses and the inclusion of personal special moves for all players, which include flaming fireballs and pace shattering freeze attacks. Special tricks are also available, bringing the handheld's unique features to the fore with an innovative touchscreen method for activating them. Special tricks can be used to deflect opponents' attacks and maintain speed during the races, which often turn into frenetic battles for first place as players race along undulating alpine tracks festooned with ramps and jump points, used for flying over vertigo-inducing chasms and crevasses.
The points earned from racing can be spent at the in-game shop on a variety of features, from new snowboards and special moves to new courses, new characters and even new game modes, details of which are to be revealed at a later date.
With a fully featured single player mode and intense wireless multiplayer game types, SBK: Snow Board Kids will be released by Rising Star Games in March 2006.

Nintendo has always led the way in innovation, ever since it first entered the handheld gaming arena over 25 years ago. As the end of 2005 approaches, not only do Nintendo continue to make the best selling handheld machines on the market, they are also expanding the gaming audience with total portable video game machine sales increasing year on year.
This year saw the launch of an all-new console, the Nintendo DS, with over 2 million consumers across Europe already having purchased one. For the last three weeks, sales of Nintendo DS exceeded 100,000 units per week, and last week alone sales topped 120,000 across Europe.
Hit releases like Nintendogs are also having a massive impact on Nintendo's hand-held popularity, reaching new gamers and creating an overnight phenomenon. Since its launch on October 7th in Europe, over 1 million copies of the game have been sold. Nintendogs has become like gold dust across Europe with stocks flying off shelves as soon as they arrive in store.
Mario Kart DS has now launched and is the first Nintendo game to offer Wi-Fi gaming through the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. With the combination of Mario Kart fun and simple Wi-Fi play, sales of Nintendo DS are expected to accelerate into Christmas.
The Nintendo DS is available for around £89. Mario Kart DS is available now at the estimated retail price of around £30 and the Mario Kart Pak (including a copy of Mario Kart DS and a silver Nintendo DS) is available at the estimated retail price of around £99.

Visiting the Xbox 360 launch event

Today, PlayDevil was invited by Microsoft and its PR firm to witness the official "Belgian Launch Event" of its upcoming next gen console , the "Xbox 360".
Of course, we couldn't pass such an opportunity and we went.
Location of the event was in the heart of Brussels.
Still no surprises to us since due to various videos, screenshots and press releases we knew exactly what Microsoft will throw at us.
And honestly, we were still surprised, in full glory. The Xbox 360, now touching it is feeling very slick and beautiful.
There were basically two presentations, one in french/flemish about first the global idea behind Xbox 360, what's its goal, etc.
The second presentation also french/flemish combined was more about the upcoming X360 games and accessories and I must tell you , it was 'heaven'.
Not only the tons of new accessories looks good but also its design is top notch.
More on that later on when we get deeper with the Xbox 360 in a more in-depth hardware review of the console.
Regarding software, there were a lot of "playable" X360 games such as PGR 3, Dead or Alive 4, Perfect Dark Zero, Fifa 06, etc.
After playing some laps in PGR 3, yours truly was seriously amazed by the quality of the game.
It truly is a next gen console and if this is already the quality in the first batch of launch games for the X360, it can't wait until the games gets more polished in a few months. Then it will almost become "real" games.
Anyway, with a appropriate launch, food and drinks as much as you want, we also did an interview with Luc Casterman who's the Belgian Product Manager of Xbox and Xbox360.
We even ask about a perhaps "Xbox Portable System"!
More on that later on when we bring on the interview online.
Expect a full screenshot report of the event with some commentary soon and otherwise, lets hope we can get a Xbox 360 from Microsoft BEFORE the actual European launch date, which is 2nd December.
X360, a positive experience towards a real next gen console.
More Digital Jesters problems

We just received a rather sad e-mail coming from the C.E.O. Kylotonn Entertainment.
Kylotonn Entertainment is a french developer who made the game "Bet on Soldier".
Now today Kylotoon Entertainment has terminated any distributing and publishing rights to Digital Jesters regarding Bet on Soldier.
It seems that DJ will have hard times.
Here are the goods:
RVP–Kylotonn Entertainment announces that Digital Jesters has committed a series of breaches of contract and that Kylotonn has terminated the distributing and publishing agreement with Digital Jesters with immediate effect.
Kylotonn deeply regrets having fallen victim to the practices of non-payment and breaches of contract perpetrated by the management of Digital Jesters.
The ownership of game “Bet on Soldier” remains firmly with the creators Kylotonn and Kylotonn will shortly arrange a new agreement with another publisher for this title in the UK and in the US.

Atari today announced the forthcoming release of Bandai's Tamagotchi Connexion Corner Shop, a dose of virtual retail therapy set in the world of Tamagotchi and developed exclusively for the Nintendo DS.
In the game, players open speciality shops, and develop their businesses by serving customers needs through mini games that utilise the Nintendo DS touch-screen functionality. Scheduled for release in early 2006, Tamagotchi Connexion Corner Shop features a colourful, hand-drawn visual style, popular Tamagotchi characters, and a variety of different shops.
Tamagotchi Connexion Corner Shop is based on the wildly popular Tamagotchi "virtual pet", which debuted in 1996 and sold more than 40 million units worldwide. Not only did the Tamagotchi spur a pop culture phenomenon, it launched a brand new toy category and has prompted countless imitators.
In Tamagotchi Connexion Corner Shop, players help Mametchi, Memetchi or Kuchipatchi set up a shop, with the ultimate goal of creating a "royal" shop that is a favourite of Princess Tamako. Players can select from a variety of different stores, including a bakery, beauty salon, dentist's office, flower shop, and more. Once the shop is open, players help their customers by completing mini games with the Nintendo DS stylus. Players apply makeup, treat cavities, decorate cakes and complete many other shop-specific tasks to earn Gs, the Tamagotchi money unit, and progress towards "royal" shop status. Shop interiors can be customised and cute Tamagotchi characters will make appearances throughout the game.

Nintendo's Revolution will have play control system

Nintendo today announces it will include a play control system in its next home video game system, code-named Revolution, coming in 2006.
By using a password-controlled setting, adults can decide what flexibility they'll allow younger players to have in playing video games rated 3+, 7+, 12+, 16+ or 18+. The system also ensures dedicated adult gamers can opt to play without limitations.
How does it work? The actual game software will contain a code indicating the rating, which will activate the control system to remain locked or unlocked. The feature will be included in every Revolution worldwide.
Nintendo's games in Europe are rated using the Pan European Games Information (PEGI) age rating system for interactive games, which groups games into five different age bands, 3+, 7+, 12+, 16+ or 18+.
Nintendo's next console will usher in a new era of video gaming. It will feature a controller designed to be used with either one hand or two, a first in the video game industry. The position and motion of the controller itself dictates the action on the television screen. A second, plug-in expansion gives hard-core gamers additional control for more in-depth game play.
Revolution will play both new game discs, as well as Nintendo GameCube discs. It also will have access to 20 years of fan-favorite games, including those from the Nintendo 64, Super NES and NES eras.

In the early 1980s a small Japanese games card manufacturer called Nintendo revolutionised the entertainment industry by making a bold move into the fledgling computer games industry, a move that would later come to define the company's future. Combining an optimised driving engine with an innovative concept, Black Bean and the Italian software house, Milestone, are ready to deliver an electrifying racing title for fans of the genre.
Enter the "Evolution", where the main keywords are realism and driver improvement.
Evolution GT will be released across Europe at the end of March 2006 and will set a new standard in the racing simulation genre.
Evolution GT is the result of years of experience and know-how, accumulated while developing game such as the Screamer series, the Superbike series and SCAR. It further develops the features introduced in SCAR, with a greater emphasis on driving tactics and psychology, focusing on the driver's skills, tactics and mental strength as well as the speed, acceleration and grip of the cars.
Evolution GT is a racing game that gives the player the opportunity to experience the life of a real racing driver, and the evolution of his alter ego throughout the course of his career.
By choosing appropriate race tactics and driving styles, and placing well in the races, the player will grow in his ability to compete at an ever-higher level, gaining access to new racing cars as well as roadsters, coupès and eventually dream cars such as the BUGATTI EB110 and the PAGANI ZONDA.
Races take place across Europe; from the beautiful landscapes of the Scottish Highlands and the Cote d'Azur to the monumental wonders of London and Barcelona, without missing out on famous racing venues such as Laguna Seca or Hockenheim.
Realism is guaranteed by an extremely accurate physics model, and the most advanced AI ever seen in a racing simulation game.
Driver experience and improvement means that the player will feel the tension and emotions that only a real race can offer; fighting for a podium finish and accumulating race experience.
This new title has created great expectations. Antonio Farina, President of Milestone, declares: "We are excited about the possibility of further expanding our racing expertise in new and creative directions. Evolution GT will be our next milestone in redefining the cross-platform racing experience".

For the first time ever, the online gaming service for Nintendo DS lets users connect wirelessly to race. From the very start, users can log on easily to shoot shells and burn rubber against opponents from all around the world.
The Mario Kart franchise has sold more than 11.1 million games in the United States alone. Mario Kart DS offers racers more than 30 courses, including classic tracks from Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart: Super Circuit and Mario Kart®: Double Dash!! . Favorite Nintendo characters cruise in dozens of classic and custom karts as they use weapons like bananas, bombs, lightning and squid ink to gain a competitive advantage.
When racing using a wireless local area connection, up to eight players can play, even if only one of them has a Mario Kart DS game card. When using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, up to four players across the world can join a race. Friends share their DS Friend Code to find one another online using their friend roster.
Whether users are at home or out and about, they have a variety of uncomplicated ways to connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection:
If the user already has a Wi-Fi home network, the Nintendo DS unit will connect directly with minimal setup procedures.
Those who have a home high-speed Internet connection such as cable or DSL, but no Wi-Fi home network, can either purchase a compatible wireless router or the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector, which plugs into the USB port of a PC running Windows XP to create a wireless access point to connect a DS to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector will be sold exclusively on Nintendo.com at an MSRP of $34.99.
Outside the home, when a user brings a Nintendo DS unit and a Wi-Fi-enabled game into a Wayport-enabled McDonald's restaurant locations, the user simply launches the game in Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection mode. No setup is required.
Nintendo DS owners who want to play games at Wi-Fi locations outside McDonald's restaurant locations or their homes can use a laptop computer and the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector to access Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector enables the Nintendo DS to share an Internet connection established by a PC, providing a conduit to play games via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Regular Internet access fees may apply from these locations.
Nintendo DS owners may also connect at a number of other free hotspot locations with no additional hardware and minimal setup. A complete list of these locations, along with the list of participating McDonald's restaurant locations, can be found on www.nintendowifi.com.
Mario Kart DS is the first title to use Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, along with multiple upcoming titles like Animal Crossing®: Wild World on Dec. 5 and Metroid® Prime Hunters on March 20. For more information about Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, log onto www.nintendowifi.com.

 [Category :
] [Posted by Bjorn on Wednesday, November 9 2005 @ 14:40 CET]
Capcom today announced two new titles for the PSP - Mega Man Powered Up and Mega Man Maverick Hunter X.
The original Mega Man, which was originally released on the Nintendo Entertainment System, undergoes a complete transformation in Mega Man Powered Up. A totally redesigned look and feel, combined with a wealth of new gameplay options, provides an entirely new gameplay experience for even the ultimate Mega Man aficionado. Mega Man Maverick Hunter X is a fresh remake of the original Mega Man X title that debuted on the SuperNintendo Entertainment System, launching a separate Mega Man storyline and a new central character named X. Mega Man Powered Up and Mega Man Maverick Hunter X are both rated 'E' for everyone by the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) and the two are planned for release in the early 2006 timeframe across North America.
"The Mega Man and Mega Man X series combined top-notch play control and invigorating gameplay experiences that helped define the platform genre," said Todd Thorson, director of marketing, Capcom Entertainment. "By introducing innovative ways to experience the original classics, both new and veteran gamers can enjoy side scrolling action at its best."
In Mega Man Powered Up, a near future sees advances in science that have helped Dr. Light and his fellow researchers develop humanoid robots designed to improve quality of life for mankind. All is harmonious until an evil scientist named Dr. Wily takes control of several robots in his quest to take over the planet. With Dr. Light's help, a household helper robot named Mega Man embarks on a mission to restore peace to the world.
In this classic 2D side-scroller, players take on the role of Mega Man as he slides, shoots and jumps his way through a variety of themed stages, ultimately facing off against a menacing boss character for each. Stages can be selected in any order and can be retried as many times as possible. Actions, moves and weapons earned in areas can be strategically used to finish others and will also provide access to previously inaccessible sections of levels players have already beaten.
Mega Man Powered Up includes several major modifications to the original game for its PSP system edition.
Mega Man Maverick Hunter X is a remake of the original Mega Man X title for the PSP system. The game builds upon the Mega Man engine and adds totally new characters, environments and gameplay features to raise the bar for side-scrollingplatforms. As with previous Mega Man titles, a stage select system lets players tackle levels in any order and replay them limitless times.
By defeating bosses, X acquires weapons which can be used to unlock new paths through other stages. Armor partsare also hidden throughout the game and provide players with abilities that can be used to access additional areas and items. With combinations of jumps, dodges, wall jumps and a high speed dash ability, the action reaches frantic heights which the X series has become known for.
