Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, today announced Rayman® DS, SprungTM(U.S. Name Title) and Asphalt Urban GTTM as official launch titles in Europe for the upcoming release of the Nintendo DSTM system in 2005.

Rayman, one of the most recognizable video game characters around the world, arrives for the first time in full 3D glory on a handheld as he battles to defeat the pirate terror that has enslaved his world. Rayman DS is poised to repeat the successful performance of its predecessor, Rayman® Advance, which was among the top-ten selling launch titles for the Game Boy AdvanceTM system in 2001. Furthermore the European version of Rayman DS will include a multiplayer feature and will take full advantage of the touch-screen technology.

Sprung (Working title) creates an entirely new genre for portable gaming by putting players in the middle of an engaging, risqué and daring adventure with sexy singles at a hip ski resort. The dating simulation, or "stimulation," title features gender-specific adventures, entertaining dating missions and a hilarious script written by North Shore (FOX) writer Colleen McGuiness.

Asphalt Urban GT flies onto the Nintendo DS on four very fast wheels, combining the virtues of both simulation and arcade racing. Players will hit the streets in a wide range of licensed high-performance cars, including Lamborghini, Jaguar, Hummer and more, on tracks from around the world.

Rayman and Sprung are developed and published by Ubisoft. Asphalt GT is published by Gameloft and distributed under exclusivity by Ubisoft.

EyeToy®: Kinetic
  [Category : PlayStation2] [Posted by Bjorn on Friday, November 19 2004 @ 0:12 CET]
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today announced the upcoming release of EyeToy®: Kinetic, an innovative new physical exercise title produced in association with NIKE MOTIONWORKS®.

Developed by SCEE's award-winning London Studio exclusively for PlayStation 2, EyeToy: Kinetic represents a unique new development in physical gaming. The first interactive fitness title developed in conjunction with NIKE MOTIONWORKS, EyeToy: Kinetic allows players to improve not only general fitness but also reactions, posture, balance, breathing and all round body toning and conditioning.

In the early stages of development, the NIKE MOTIONWORKS team of fitness training experts played a key role, providing information about the key exercises and movements to be included in the game and also aiding in the development of the warm-up, stretching and toning sequences.

The NIKE MOTIONWORKS team also contributed greatly to the creation of EyeToy: Kinetic's Personal Trainer Mode, aiding in the structure and sequence of the exercise routines, and offering insight into the validity and health value of the movements within the routines.

EyeToy: Kinetic offers a wide variety of fitness activities that far exceeds the traditional 'home workout video'. The EyeToy camera, with the addition of a newly developed Wide Angled Lens that attaches to the front of the camera, allows for increased levels of interactivity projecting the exerciser's image onto the television screen, enabling them to physically interact with their environments.

With four areas of discipline to choose from, EyeToy: Kinetic offers a wide variety of exercises for players to choose from. Aero Motion and Combat zones help to increase the player's overall fitness level, inspired by moves and stances from activities such as Tai Kwon Do, Modern Dance, Kick Boxing, Aerobics and Karate.
The Mind and Body zone focuses on breathing, concentration and flexibility, taking inspirations from Yoga and Tai Chi, leaving players feeling relaxed, yet with their body fully conditioned. The Toning zone helps the player to tone specific muscle groups utilising slow and refined movements.

Offering a tailor-made fitness regime that encourages and motivates players to develop, improve and commit themselves to exercising, EyeToy: Kinetic is easily adaptable to fit in within a busy lifestyle, whatever the person's fitness level.

EyeToy: Kinetic is set to revolutionise lifestyle gaming in early 2005.

Electronic Arts today announced that "Armies of Exigo"(TM) for the PC has gone gold. "Armies of Exigo" is a fantasy real-time strategy (RTS) game that gives players the groundbreaking ability to wage war both above ground and in cavernous subterranean expanses as one of three unique forces.

"Armies of Exigo" pits the forces of The Empire, The Beast and The Fallen in a massive struggle for domination of a world divided by the terrain itself. In their quest for domination, the armies can travel below the surface to unleash surprise attacks or launch offensives from superior vantage points on the surface. Mercury debuts on PSP
[Category : Handheld] [Posted by Bjorn on Friday, November 19 2004 @ 0:06 CET]
Ignition Entertainment has today unveiled the first official details of PSP launch title 'Archer Maclean's Mercury' – a staggering new concept in videogame entertainment from his team at Awesome Studios.

Available as a PSP launch title, Mercury is a refreshingly unique game with roots in many genres.

Mercury provides an addicting challenge through its simple gaming mechanic, which merely requires players to 'tilt' each level in order to manoeuvre the blobs of mercury, with various switches, platforms, obstacles and hazards standing between level goals.

Powering Mercury is a ridiculously sophisticated engine which calculates every gloopy part of the liquid metal as it bends and melds around everything in its path. As the digitised mercury smoothly ebbs and flows under such simple controls, players experience the purest form of gaming imaginable.

Despite requiring no complicated controls, the game itself is grinningly taxing. Puzzle elements vary from needing to split the mercury into several coloured component parts – each of which will be affected by the degree of tilt – in order to open gates, activate switches, etc. The maze-like environments require lateral thinking in order to navigate the mercury from start to finish – with the sprawling 3D levels often requiring devilish-yet-hit-yourself-when-you-work-it-out solutions.

SVC Chaos from SNK on X-Box
  [Category : X_Box] [Posted by Bjorn on Tuesday, November 9 2004 @ 19:38 CET]
The world's two greatest fighting games battle it out once again, as Ignition Entertainment brings SNK's fight against Capcom to Xbox and PS2. SVC CHAOS will be available, Jan '05 with a SRP of £19.99. Fully Live compatible on the Xbox, SVC CHAOS allows players to take on opponents from all over the globe.

Several years ago Capcom made a fighting game that took some of SNK's favourite characters out of their home environment and placed them in the world of Street Fighter. With the inclusion of different playing styles within one title, the Capcom vs SNK series made a valiant attempt to bring the SNK fighters to life. The addition of another two buttons to make Kyo and Iori more like Ryu and Ken was deemed necessary, but was a major factor in the title showing its developer's roots.

Enter: SVC CHAOS.

Featuring playable characters from some of SNK and Capcom's most popular franchises – which include King of Fighters, Fatal Fury, Samurai Showdown, Dark Stalkers and Street Fighter – SVC CHAOS brings together fighters from across the years to duke it out in a brand new fighting system. Designed by SNK, and with a range of different ways to move around, guard and break guard, SNK's latest home console title offers a dynamic battle experience that feels at once comfortable and yet new. Charge up the power gauge to use new systems like the 'Guard Cancel Front Step' and 'Guard Cancel Attack', along with the 'Anywhere Cancel'. The new Exceed Move offers another level of depth for knowledgeable players.

Nintendo cracks down on US piracy operation
[Category : (default)] [Posted by Bjorn on Tuesday, November 2 2004 @ 21:59 CET]
The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington has issued a temporary restraining order against the import and sale of video game systems containing counterfeit versions of Nintendo games being sold at numerous shopping malls.

In a major first step in its efforts to stop the sale of infringing products throughout the United States, Nintendo of America Inc. filed the action against two companies, its officers and employees after receiving tips from more than 400 of its loyal fans. In response to the specific court order, U.S. marshals will seize the counterfeit systems at shopping mall kiosks in the western Washington area. In addition, Nintendo is supporting numerous federal criminal investigations and U.S. Customs has seized tens of thousands of the infringing devices upon their entry into the country, all of which are assumed to be headed to malls across the United States for illegal sale.

The hundreds of thousands of products in question look identical to Nintendo® 64 controllers and plug directly into televisions, allowing users to play dozens of illegally pirated Nintendo games from the original Nintendo Entertainment System®, such as Donkey Kong® and Mario Bros.® Nintendo re-released many of these popular games, currently being pirated, as part of its Classic NES® Series, which allows its fans to play their favorite classic games on their Game Boy® Advance SP units. The bootleg products sell under the names "Power Player," "Super Joystick," "Superjoy" and "Powerjoy." As a result of the federal court order, Nintendo is urging all mall management companies around the country to immediately close the kiosks selling the illegal products.
