] [Posted by Bjorn on Monday, October 29 2007 @ 17:27 CET]
Today Nintendo adds three new classic games to the popular Wii™ video game system's Wii Shop Channel. The games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the channel every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:
Castlevania® II Simon's Quest (NES®, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone - Mild Fantasy Violence, 500 Wii Points): In this one-player adventure, you'll take on the role of Simon Belmont once again and duel to the death with Count Dracula. Grab your legendary whip, Vampire Killer, and roam freely through Transylvania on a quest to find the count's missing body parts-these are the key to breaking an evil curse. This quest won't be easy, though, for you must battle hideous fiends who stalk the land. In addition to the intense action and tight control the Castlevania series is known for, this sequel also introduced several unique game-play elements into the fold. Build experience the longer you play, buy weapons and items from merchants, or talk with villagers to get clues (some of which are false). Watch as day turns to night and then back again. Take a deep breath, steady your nerves, and help Simon end his curse and defeat the count once and for all.
SAMURAI-GHOST™ (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older - Animated Blood and Violence, 600 Wii Points): This action platformer features a samurai ghost from the depths of the underworld. In a past war, Kagekiyo managed to defeat the shogun Yoritomo and his clan. However, their evil spirits were not completely destroyed, and now, in the world known as Dark Side, they seek the time of their rebirth. In order to shatter those ambitions, Kagekiyo must make his way across seven zones and head for "The Heart of the Darkside" where Yoritomo lies in wait. Use spirit weapons to power up your sword, or other items, such as candles to recover health, and defeat the endless hordes of enemies. Each zone is not only protected by a boss but also includes demons as well as real samurai from 12th-century Japan. Get ready for some intense one-on-one combat action.
MAGICIAN LORD (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated T for Teen - Blood and Fantasy Violence, 900 Wii Points): Released in 1990 and regarded as one of the NEOGEO's earliest signature games, this side-scrolling platformer mixes action with the mystical world of fantasy. A magician named Elta, last descendant of the famed Magician Lord, takes on an epic adventure to save the world from the evil Gul-Agieze. Elta must battle through eight stages, collecting the eight tomes of power that are key to defeating Gul-Agieze and his evil plans. By obtaining orbs in one of three colors (elements) that appear during the game, Elta's offensive powers and jumping abilities can be strengthened. The effect varies considerably depending on the combination of elements, though, and Elta can transform into six different forms: Waterman, Dragon Warrior, Shinobi, Samurai, Raijin or Poseidon. Can you help Elta to become the new Magician Lord?

The game will be available worldwide, with the exception of Korea, for 800 Microsoft Points.
A uniquely stylish and addictive puzzle game, “Exit” will have players using their decision-making skills and quick wit to escape numerous obstacles while rescuing people from more emergencies in over 220 levels. Three new classic games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:
Lunar Pool® (NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Lunar Pool takes the historical game of billiards and reinvents it with a unique and futuristic flair. The rules are simple: All you need to do is use your cue stick to hit the white cue ball, causing it to hit the other numbered balls and make them go into the pockets. You can enjoy nearly unlimited game play with 30 tables, two different ball arrangements, and the ability to change the degree of friction on the table. You can play against a computer or another human player, so try challenging someone once you've got the hang of the game.
Ninja JaJaMaru-kun® (NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 600 Wii Points): Take on the role of a ninja called JaJaMaru and rescue the captured Princess Sakura from the evil Namazu Dayuu in this action-packed game, previously unreleased outside of Japan. JaJaMaru must use his throwing stars to defeat the monsters lurking in each of Dayuu's many hideouts. JaJaMaru has to be careful though, as each monster has its own unique weapon and method of attacking. The only way for him to advance is to break the floor bricks above him and move up and down between the levels of each round, defeating monsters as he goes. To help him, broken bricks sometimes reveal items that JaJaMaru can use to his advantage, possibly leading to the ultimate power-up: a ride on Gamapakun, the giant frog. Throw in some bonus stages and you've got a game with a style all its own.
Golden Axe™ III (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, Rated E10+ for Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): The once-peaceful kingdom so familiar to fans of the original Golden Axe is under threat once again. The Prince of Darkness has stolen the invaluable Golden Axe, taken over the kingdom and rendered its warriors harmless with an evil curse. One warrior breaks free from the curse and must defeat the prince and regain the Golden Axe to save the kingdom. In this one- or two-player action game, play as a giant, a panther or a sword-wielding human and fight your way to victory once again.

Developed by Airtight Games, Dark Void will deliver a groundbreaking combination of fast-paced vertical combat mixed with mid-air and on-foot action. Dark Void is currently scheduled for release in winter 2008.
Something is consuming out universe, a vast and ancient force almost beyond our comprehension. Millions of years ago, the minions of that power found their way to the 3rd planet of an unremarkable yellow star. Ours. The race they created came to call their masters “The Watchers.” For millennia we knew them as gods and served their dark purposes, but a few humans developed extraordinary powers. They were known as the Adepts and they rose up, banishing The Watchers into a parallel universe, where they’ve manipulated and schemed from afar. Until now.
Scot Bayless VP Product Development commented: “We’re really excited to be partnering with Airtight on this project. Collectively the team has a proven track record in delivering high quality titles and the addition of creative talent from the film, television and comic book industries plus the invaluable experience of Airtight’s co-founder, Ed Fries, provides a winning combination.”
President of Airtight Games, Jim Deal added: “Capcom has consistently been at the forefront of innovative game development and when the opportunity arose to work with them we jumped at the chance and are all looking forward to a successful relationship.”

Atari announced today that The Witcher has gone gold and is on schedule for European launch on October 26. Developed by CD Projekt RED, The Witcher will be available exclusively for Windows.
The Witcher transcends traditional fantasy role-playing by throwing players into a unique fantasy world rife with modern social issues where the line between good and evil is blurred and every decision can have profound consequences. Based on the fictional world created by best-selling Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher casts the player as Geralt, a legendary monster slayer and master swordfighter with supernatural abilities and reflexes.
“The Witcher is an exceptional role-playing game which further cements Atari’s reputation in bringing the highest quality role-playing experiences to gamers,” said Mathias Hautefort, Executive Vice President of publishing and production, Atari. “Working hand in hand with independent development studio CD Projekt RED, the result sets a new standard for games in the genre.”
“Creating The Witcher was a huge challenge, but also an adventure. Our task was to create a game with an incredibly involving story and a credible world – a role-playing Game that we ourselves would like to play,” said Michał Kiciński, CD Projekt Joint CEO. “We approached this task with no compromises. Thanks to that The Witcher is not just another RPG. It’s a piece of work that in many respects changes and extends the typical canon of such games. It’s quite a brave approach, however I believe that thanks to that attitude ‘The Witcher’ will bring much freshness into the genre and, of course, will give the players all around the world lots of joy and positive emotions. And we couldn’t have asked for a better publishing partner than Atari. We’re very happy that The Witcher will join Atari’s stable of fantastic role-playing games.”
The Witcher presents a fresh approach to traditional role-playing, blending an expansive, twisting plotline – in which the impact of individual decisions can drastically alter the later outcome of the game – and fast-paced, spectacular combat combining swordplay and magic against a myriad of foes, human and otherwise. With highly detailed graphics, countless motion-capture animations and spectacular visual effects, The Witcher delivers brutal action, deep role-playing options and an intriguing story which will enthrall any player who dares to take on the formidable role of Geralt.

Samus Aran from 'Metroid' in a pinball game? Probably the last thing that any hardcore Metroid fan want to play but still while you don't see Samus at all.
Featuring the same music in background but with only with 3 pinball tables and no multiplayer, 'Metroid Prime Pinball' might be disappointing at first.
However we still gave it a go and the full review can be read right here.

Capcom announces return of Bionic Commando
 [Category :
] [Posted by Bjorn on Tuesday, October 16 2007 @ 14:44 CET]
Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today confirmed a return for one of its classic franchises with the announcement that Bionic Commando is in development for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Sony Computer Entertainment’s PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) and PC platforms.
Taking its inspiration from its 8-bit namesake released on the Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1988, Bionic Commando features Nathan Spencer (voiced by former lead singer of Faith No More, Mike Patton), a government operative who represents the ultimate fusion of man and machine. After distinguishing himself in a fierce conflict against the Imperials, Spencer is betrayed and falsely imprisoned by the very people he unquestioningly served.
Three years later, on the day he is due to be executed for his supposed crimes, an experimental weapon detonates in Ascension City, unleashing an immensely powerful earthquake coupled with a radiation shockwave that leaves the city in ruins, wiping out its populace. Military intelligence suggests that a large terrorist search force has moved in and occupied Ascension City, but as yet their motives remain unclear. With the terrain in ruins and the terrorists in control of Ascension City’s air defences the FSA has only one option open to them – the reactivation of Nathan Spencer.
Bionic Commando harnesses the power of the latest generation of hardware to fully exploit the swing mechanic that made the original title so unique. The ruins of Ascension City and its surroundings provide an engaging environment of towering buildings, suspended roadways and monorails, deep canyons and sheer rock faces that allow gamers to traverse each area via multiple routes using swinging, rappeling, climbing and wall-walking techniques.
An expertly trained operative, Spencer is able to target and take out enemies while hanging upside down, climbing a building or even in mid-swing. At close quarters, the bionic arm packs a mean punch, while from a distance, objects such as boulders and cars can be grabbed and launched at enemies.

Use techniques such as the Fire Wheel or the Windmill Throwing Star and attack while holding on to walls and ladders. Use the most innovative technique of all - the ability to create Shadow Clones, orange shadow versions of Ryu that will constantly follow him, repeating previous actions (moving or attacking) in a delayed cycle. Once again defeat henchmen, creatures and bosses with new fighting techniques and even more weapons as you progress through multiple stages on your way to destroying Ashtar, Jaquio and the Realm of Chaos.
Metal Marines® (Super NES®, 1 player, rated E for Everyone - Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): Set in the near future, most of Earth's land has been disintegrated in the chaos of the Anti-matter War. This real-time strategy game portrays the Colonies' Allied Force - the Metal Marines - in their epic struggle against General Zorgeuf and the Imperial Federation, who are bent on world domination. Commanding the Metal Marines across a series of battles, the player must strategically allocate resources, ready supplies, manage funds and move troops in an effort to outwit and outmove the opponent. The real-time battle system rewards split-second decisions and adaptability in the struggle for military superiority. Unlike most turn-based strategy games, Metal Marines engrosses the player in a fast-paced and frantic battle in which both sides advance simultaneously. A constant eye must be kept on enemy movements to maintain a formidable defense and not miss the perfect chance to strike. Strategic foresight and quick judgment hold the key to victory.
Gate of Thunder (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, rated E for Everyone - Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): The legendary sci-fi shooter is back! Gate of Thunder is a horizontal side-scrolling shooter that places you in control of special undercover agent Hawk, whose mission is to stop the deadly army of Obbellon fighters. Jump into the action as Hawk gets aboard his ship, the Hunting Dog, and heads out toward the enemy. Blast through stages while effectively using all three of the weapons at your disposal and receiving support from ally Wild Cat ships. Switch through equippable power-up options on the fly to change the direction of your attack. You'll have to blast in front of and behind you to survive all seven stages. Hard-core shooting-game fans looking for a challenge can select HARD or DEVIL mode to experience even more intense action!

] [Posted by Bjorn on Friday, October 12 2007 @ 16:05 CET]
Donkey Kong: Jungle Climber will be available across Europe on the Nintendo DS on 12th October 2007.
This is not your typical platform game - in Donkey Kong: Jungle Climber players control the game almost entirely using the L and R shoulder buttons, swinging their character from vine to vine as they traverse large horizontal and vertical stages. The two shoulder buttons on the Nintendo DS are used to swing our hero left or right, grabbing hold of vines as he goes. Once on a vine or peg DK will spin around it until the player releases the button causing him to jump in the direction he is facing. Players must master effectively swinging from peg to peg while avoiding the obstacles and hazards in their way to progress through this game.
In his latest adventure, Donkey Kong is enjoying a much-needed holiday with his friends on an exotic tropical island. However, the sinister King K. Rool and his Kremlin crew steal some mysterious crystal bananas from visiting aliens and use their power to attempt to take over the jungle and the universe. After accidentally destroying their ship, Donkey Kong agrees to put his vacation on hold and help the aliens recover their treasure.
The colourful and original level design featured in this game will delight fans of the Donkey Kong universe as well as newcomers to the Nintendo DS. To help Donkey Kong achieve his goal players must progress through a number of worlds, each with five sub-stages, defeating a sinister boss at the end of each world. While making their way through the action-packed stages players will be able to collect bananas, gems and coins as well as defeating enemies with Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong’s attacks.
Even once the game’s main quest has been mastered, Donkey Kong: Jungle Climber provides a selection of other features to keep players busy including unlockable cheats and a host of addictive minigames. These minigames include Rolling Panic where players must jump logs and dodge boulders, Speed Swing which requires DK to make his way through a difficult obstacle course against the clock and Throw’n’Crush, a target practice game using throwing rocks. What’s more, for an added challenge both Speed Climb and Barrel Race can be enjoyed with up to three other players using the Nintendo DS wireless connection.
Donkey Kong: Jungle Climber launches across Europe on 12th October for the Nintendo DS at the estimated retail price of around €40.

Eidos Interactive, one of the world’s leading publishers and developers of entertainment software, is pleased to unveil a sinister new twist to the online multiplayer experience in Kane & Lynch: Dead Men called Fragile Alliance.
Fragile Alliance is based on greed, betrayal and revenge, offering online gamers the choice of working as a team or back-stabbing their team mates and working for themselves at any moment. Up to eight players team up against police in a series of gripping heist scenarios, but from here the choice is entirely up to the individual player. The objective is to steal the loot and make it to the getaway point. The winner is the player who escapes with the most loot. How and when you make your move is up to you.
“We wanted to make a multiplayer experience using the theme, dynamics and atmosphere of Kane & Lynch: Dead Men” said Kim Krogh, Lead Game Designer, IO Interactive. “Fragile Alliance is a new way to use co-op in multiplayer. Play it like a soldier and you’ll lose, play it like a criminal and you’ll win”.
“Kane & Lynch multiplayer opens up Pandora’s gun cabinet in terms of gameplay possibilities,” said Fabien Rossini, Brand Controller, Eidos. “The options available to players are mouth-watering; are you a team player, a traitor, a bounty hunter, a cop – the decision is yours. You may start as part of a team but then it’s up to the player what they want to do.”
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is a dark and gritty tale of two men bound by circumstance as they wait on death row for their final sentence. One is a flawed mercenary, the other a medicated psychopath. The two are forced to embark on a violent and chaotic journey, hating each other every step of the way.
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men will be available in stores in the US beginning Tuesday 20th November and throughout Europe beginning Friday 23rd November on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC Games for Windows.

Atari today announced an agreement with Gamecock Media Group to co-publish the stunningly original forthcoming first-person shooter Legendary: The Box™ in PAL territories. Coming to PC and next-generation consoles, Legendary: The Box™ is scheduled to launch in summer 2008.
Developed by Spark Unlimited, Legendary: The Box™ tells the story of a thief – Charles Deckard – who is duped into stealing the mythical Pandora’s Box. Like Pandora before him, he cannot resist the temptation of finding out what’s inside. By opening the fabled device, he unleashes hordes of creatures thought to be merely the imaginings of our ancestors. However, murderous werewolves, unstoppable gryphons and other creatures of ancient lore prove all too real as they wreak havoc across an unprepared modern world.
“Gamecock have already established themselves as a serious new force to be reckoned with in video games, and we’re proud and excited to be entering into this agreement with them to co-publish such an original and excellent quality product as Legendary: The Box™,” said Mathias Hautefort, Executive Vice President of publishing and production, Atari. “The agreement marks another positive step forward for Atari in bringing original and high quality interactive entertainment to the market.”
"Gamecock is very proud to be working with Atari on this project, utilizing their massive distribution network in the PAL territories to make this game as big a hit outside the US as it will be inside," said Harry Miller, El Presidente and Head of Development, Gamecock Media Group.
Developer Spark Unlimited was founded by 27 of the individuals who developed titles in the award-winning Medal of Honor™ series. The critically acclaimed and multi-million unit selling Call of Duty™: Finest Hour™ was the result of the company's first efforts and the team is excited to bring their proven talent and experience in creating compelling first person action games to this project.
“Our goal at Spark has been to create high-quality innovative titles that deliver uniquely realistic and cinematic gaming experiences,” said Craig Allen, Chief Executive Officer of Spark Unlimited. “We are excited to welcome Atari as a co-publisher in order to insure Legendary: The Box™ becomes a global success.”
Legendary: The Box™ is a breath-taking blockbuster experience where man and machine take on the beasts of legend in the war to end all wars, all set against a backdrop of total social disintegration. High calibre ordnance meets beak, talon, fang and claw in awe-inspiring fire fights the like of which have never before been realised in a video game. Living, breathing dynamic environments are spectacularly torn apart in the battle to stay alive, with the devastation of New York and London realised on an unprecedented scale.
