Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. has announced plans for the upcoming expansion set to World of Warcraft, its award-winning subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game. World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade will take players to a new realm of adventure and intrigue as they continue to explore Azeroth and the regions beyond. New races to play, new lands to explore, and new levels of power for existing World of Warcraft characters all await players in The Burning Crusade.
"We're extremely proud of what we created with World of Warcraft, and we look forward to expanding the boundaries of the game with The Burning Crusade," said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "With all of the new content we have planned, the expansion set will offer something for every World of Warcraft player to explore and enjoy."
World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade takes up where World of Warcraft left off, with the races of the Horde and the Alliance continuing to rebuild their lives among the shattered lands of Azeroth. Amid the fragile peace that exists between the factions come rumors that the Burning Legion's age-old war against Azeroth – the so-called Burning Crusade – has been rekindled and threatens to consume the world in another firestorm of war and strife. Old allegiances fall and new ones rise as both the Horde and Alliance look to new friends in this time of need.
Building on the award-winning formula set forth in World of Warcraft, the expansion set adds even more rich content to an already massive game.

Namco Hometek Inc. today announced "Pac-Man World Rally," an original kart racing game for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system, the Xbox video game system from Microsoft, Nintendo GameCube, PSP system and PC. Featuring a lineup of characters, courses, and power-ups from classic Namco games and sophisticated power sliding mechanics, players race for the finish line at breakneck speed in the fastest kart racing game ever. Developed by Smart Bomb Interactive, "Pac-Man World Rally" will be released in the summer of 2006.
"Pac-Man World Rally" puts players behind the wheel as Pac-Man® or one of 14 other classic characters from the worlds of "Pac-Man" and other popular Namco franchises, racing for the checkered flag while using unique power-ups and items to prevent their opponents from claiming victory. And because it's Pac-Man, players can expect to see him do what he does best: gobble up his adversaries along with all the Pac-Dots in sight. Players will be able to collect Power Pellets during a race to unleash a special ability that will allow them to take a bite out of their opponents and turn the tables on even the most lopsided races.

"The refined power sliding mechanics allows for tremendous handling in any situation, while a roster of more than 15 classic characters ensures that every race is memorable for players of all ages."

The artistic musical experience ElectroplanktonTM will begin making beautiful music in the United States on Jan. 9. This should come as welcome news to gamers and music fans who have longed for the hit Japanese music-making title to arrive overseas.
Electroplankton, made exclusively for Nintendo DSTM, doesn't fit the traditional definition of a video game. It features 10 different musical modes that let the user create melodies using the microphone and touch screen. Electroplankton is something that could only be played on Nintendo DS. Its dual screens, touch screen and microphone provide the perfect palette for artistic creation.
Created by renowned artist Toshio Iwai, Electroplankton presents a beautiful combination of art and music that unfolds in a different way with every touch of the screen. Players might find themselves getting lost in the melodies they create before they share their masterpieces with friends.
"Electroplankton represents just one of the many ways that Nintendo is developing new kinds of software to reach new audiences," said George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "Even if you have never played a video game, you can pick it up and start making amazing musical combinations with no instruction."

Black Widow Games announced today the development of They Hunger: Lost Souls, its first commercial PC game powered by the award-winning Half-Life 2 Source engine from Valve Software. Based upon the highly popular They Hunger mod series, the upcoming title features a completely new horror-survival adventure. In North-Eastern Europe during the early 1960's, strange anomalies culminate with dead corpses rising from their graves. As a tourist recovering from a tragic accident, you seek shelter in an ancient monastery overrun by bloodthirsty zombies, and become involved in an escalading cascade of calamities.
"They Hunger: Lost Souls is a first-person action game planned to take full advantage of the superior graphics, physics and new gameplay possibilities provided by the new Source technology," said designer Neil Manke. "Without the previous technical restrictions of the now seven years old Half-Life 1 engine, we have been able to produce a brand new game far more exciting and creative than any simple sequel or remake could ever be. Fans of the original series should still recognize the basic gameplay style, although this is an independent story with no previous knowledge required."
The new game is currently 75% complete after being secretly produced for almost a year, and a release date will be announced shortly. Regarding the adoption of a commercial model for this production, Neil explained "Next generation game engines are so complex and detailed that we would never be able to invest so much time and resources for such an ambitious project any other way. Right now we are still working out the pricing and distribution options, but our goal is a low cost alternative so it can be available for just a fraction of other commercial games." Additional information about the game and further news will be available at www.blackwidowgames.com.

We have published a review of the latest tune & race game, "Juiced" for X-Box on the site.
Here's a snip from the review :
The goal in 'Juiced' is the same as in all other tunin' games. Build an unique car with never seen parts or paint jobs and race with it.
Juiced however adds a new feature to all these mumbo jumbo, 'Style and specialties'.
At start you need to build up respect by entering races. Respect is not earned by winning only, but also by showing tricks during the race, by racing clean or by a fabulous overtaking manoeuvre.

Metroid Prime Pinball out on Oct 24

] [Posted by Bjorn on Wednesday, October 19 2005 @ 17:05 CET]
The Oct. 24 launch of Metroid® Prime Pinball will bring all the bumping, flipping and tilting of a real pinball table to a portable video game system. Metroid Prime Pinball, made exclusively for Nintendo DS, includes the Nintendo DS Rumble Pak, the first accessory that makes use of the secondary slot normally reserved for Game Boy® Advance games. The Rumble Pak is the same size as a Game Boy Advance game, and delivers vibrations of various intensity and duration to immerse the player in a realistic pinball experience.
Because the pinball is actually Metroid heroine Samus Aran in Morph Ball form, Metroid Prime Pinball delivers an earth-shaking experience beyond the usual pinball game. The Rumble Pak activates if the ball hits a bumper, or when Samus gets attacked by a host of nefarious Metroid enemies, such as Space Pirates, Metroids, the Omega Pirate, Meta Ridley and Metroid Prime.

Asian Toy Source, an innovative video game accessory company in Hong Kong, has just announced their new PSP ON TV video game accessory product will be ready very soon.
The user simply clips the PSP-ON-TV device to any Sony PlayStation Portable, and in seconds video is being displayed on any television display. Featuring detailed sniper techniques and four modes of online and offline game play, Sniper Elite is rated M for mature.
Sniper Elite immerses players in the ruins of Berlin in 1945 as a vital member of an invisible, elite American special forces group with the primary goal of preventing the Russian army from obtaining atomic research from the Germans. Across 28 grueling missions, players can also search the bodies of their fallen enemies for additional close range firepower, such as machine guns, dynamite and deadly trip grenades. The advanced artificial intelligence in Sniper Elite will require players to continually devise new tactics for survival, as enemies will flank the player, take cover and even form groups to attack in numbers.

Memory-intensive processes such as storing high definition textures, concurrent access to multiple high definition source maps, and techniques for multiple rendering targets will now be obsolete. Marking a momentum shift in the gaming industry, 512MB memory will now allow developers to concentrate on other gaming facets and worry less about memory usage.

Today Ubisoft announced that it has decided to devote additional time to perfect the next installment in its award-winning squad-based military shooter, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced WarfighterTM. The game will launch worldwide for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft in February 2006. The additional time devoted to the development of this title will allow Ubisoft to offer gamers the best episode ever of the award-winning Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon franchise and will enable the game's development teams to optimize the application of Xbox 360 technology. The delay of the release date will not impact Ubisoft's revenue forecasts for the fiscal year.
At the X05 event in Amsterdam earlier this week, Ubisoft astounded attendees with playable single- and multi-player demonstrations of the thrilling new title. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter was extremely well received by event participants and Ubisoft expects the game to quickly become a blockbuster title.
"In Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, players will be able to truly immerse themselves as soldiers of the future," said Tony Kee, vice president of marketing at Ubisoft North America. "This game will continue the tradition of setting the bar for intense multiplayer action and cutting-edge technology. X05 attendees experienced the stunning results of the work Ubisoft's award-winning studios have done in perfecting innovative multiplayer content and taking advantage of next-generation capabilities."

Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection services on November 14th!
 [Category :
] [Posted by Bjorn on Friday, October 7 2005 @ 12:12 CET]
On Nov. 14, Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection will begin a new era of easy, social gaming. For the first time, characters from the Nintendo universe will be playable online, as part of a unique wireless community, accessible inside or outside the home. Nintendo DS games like Mario Kart® DS, Animal Crossing®: Wild World and Metroid® Prime Hunters will require no additional charge for online play. Each is scheduled to launch in the coming months, along with the first third-party title using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, Activision's Tony Hawk's American SK8Land, developed by Vicarious Visions.
From home, if the user already has a Wi-Fi network, the Nintendo DS unit will connect directly to it with minimal setup procedures. Those who have a high-speed Internet connection such as cable or DSL, but no wireless network, can use the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector, sold separately, that will plug into a computer USB port to create a wireless access point to connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
Outside of the home, players will be able to connect in a variety of ways, including at thousands of free Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection hotspots nationwide. More details about these hotspots and how to connect outside of the home will be announced shortly.
Nintendo DS is just the first Nintendo system to connect via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The same service will be incorporated into Nintendo's next-generation home console, code-named Nintendo Revolution, set for release in 2006.
Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection will create a welcome, inviting atmosphere where video game players of all kinds can log on wirelessly and begin playing. The service will be used in different ways for different games. In Mario Kart DS, four players at a time can race over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Racers can pick opponents from their roster of friends, match up randomly against strangers of comparable skill levels or simply choose to race against anyone in the world. Mario Kart DS launches Nov. 14.
People who hang out in Animal Crossing: Wild World can travel to other players' towns or invite up to three other players to visit their own towns, simply by opening the town gate. The four players then can interact and play together simultaneously in one town. Players must know one another and register to their respective friend rosters before they can connect. Animal Crossing: Wild World is set to launch on Dec. 5.
Activision's Tony Hawk's American Sk8land will let players compete head-to-head in multiplayer games in a variety of modes. Players also can create custom skateboard art and graffiti tags, and share them with other players via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The service will track global high scores and stats. Tony Hawk's American SK8Land will launch on Nov. 14.
Games in development include Metroid Prime Hunters, slated to launch in the first quarter of 2006. Players can hook up for play with registered friends, automatch with other players based on a skill-level match or play with anyone; Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection quickly finds the best match with other players online.

Nintendogs hits shops today!

We've been hearing about it for weeks now, but today is the day that the European wags its tail to welcome nintendogs, made exclusively for the Nintendo DS handheld console. Touted as the number one toy this Christmas, the virtual puppy phenomenon already has the US and Japan firmly in its paws.
With tales of retailers already being inundated with dog-loving fans eager to catch the latest craze, the game finally goes on sale today.
Nintendogs is a brand new way to play and develops the concept of the virtual pet by adding a whole new dimension of interaction. Players can actually touch and speak to their dog which, will in turn react realistically to this attention. This interaction is unlike any other seen before on a games console. nintendogs is an ideal pet for people who can't own a real dog, it makes no mess, will never die and definitely won't moult all over your sofa!
nintendogs will come in three different versions – Labrador Retriever, Miniature Dachshund and Chihuahua - each with six different breeds of puppies to begin with, giving a total of eighteen breeds to choose.
Since its launch in Japan, the Japanese have been going barking mad for "nintendogs" – so much so that sales of the Nintendo DS console have rocketed to five times the average amount during the nintendogs launch week. In the US, the game racked up 250,000 sales in its first week – making it the fastest selling new franchise ever.

Mario Kart fans rejoice as the hugely popular racing game comes to the Nintendo DS on 25th November 2005. Mario Kart DS will drive players new and old to distraction as they race their way around a selection of tracks, including all-new extravaganzas and time-honoured classics from previous versions of the games. What's more Mario Kart DS will be the first Nintendo DS title to offer gamers online play allowing you to race anyone, anywhere, anytime for free.
Want to show off your skills? Then get excited as Mario Kart DS features both online and wireless multiplayer modes. By using the Wireless DS Single-Card Download Play feature, up to 8 players can link up with just one game card. Alternatively you can battle it out online with three other players either in the comfort of your own home using your existing Wi-Fi broadband; or in the High Street either at Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Access Points in store or at Nintendo Wi-Fi connection enabled public Wi-Fi hotspots. Never before has it been so easy to pick up a games console and challenge friends from all over the world for free!
Nintendo's unique new Friend Roster enables players to play online with their friends, all you need to do is set up a Friend Code by swapping a number with your friend, they will then be added to your Friend Roster and you can select to play with them online anytime, anywhere. Alternatively you can play with someone of a similar skill level. This is done seamlessly via Nintendo's servers through the use of a skill mapping system to ensure the environment is open to users of all ages and skill levels.
The Nintendo DS's double screens are put to perfect use in Mario Kart DS, moving certain features, such as the map onto the bottom screen, clearing the top solely for the fast paced action. Mario Kart DS also allows players to see what weapons their opponents have, thanks to a small symbol next to their faces on the lower screen. For the first time ever you will know what item to hang onto and what tricks your opponents have up their sleeves.
Following in the Mario Kart tradition, players must pick up items along the track such as power-ups which they can use to boost their own powers, mushrooms for a speed boost, a star to become invulnerable or shells, bombs and bananas to attack their opponents. Players can use these items to knock their opponents off the track and out of their way. These power ups can dramatically change the outcome of a race, so mastering these can give you the vital edge over your opponents.
Mario Kart DS provides excitement and challenges to keep players, both young and old, entertained and in the driving seat. This highly addictive, fun and fast paced racing game launches on the Nintendo DS in the UK on 25th November 2005, at the estimated retail price of around £30. ] [Posted by Bjorn on Tuesday, October 4 2005 @ 17:08 CET]
Electronic Arts today announced that Black & White® 2 for PC will hit stores in the UK and Ireland on 7 October 2005. Developed by Lionhead Studio's creative minds Peter Molyneux and RTS-creator Ron Millar, Black & White 2 is the long awaited sequel to the top selling game Black & White.
"Everyone at Lionhead is very excited to bring this much anticipated Black & White sequel to gamers this October," says Peter Molyneux. "Players will again have to choose between being benevolent or destructive; and the world and their creatures will grow to reflect their choices."
In Black & White 2 players take on the role of an all-powerful deity in search of a following to return to a land where discovery of weaponry and warfare has marred a once idyllic Eden. With the help of a gigantic Creature, which you raise from infancy, you must earn the natives' respect to create a society that will influence the world either through conquest or peaceful contact. Whether you accomplish this by nurturing or torturing them, is up to you.
Black & White 2 includes improved graphics, AI, game play, sound and miracle effects such as rivers of fire and earthquakes that yield massive destruction. Now every action a player takes will have an impact on the world. Players who choose the good path will see a game world in which everything is lush and beautiful, where people laugh with joy and where buildings glisten and are festooned with vines. Those who choose the evil path, will instead move in a dark and forbidding world, where the ground is cracked and dry and the predominant sounds are of suffering. Plus the record breaking creatures in the game can learn strategies, master new abilities and skills, lead armies into battle and be your ultimate unit.
A special Collector's edition of Black & White 2 will become available in the UK & Ireland on 7 October. It will contain a Making of Black & White 2 DVD, featuring exclusive interviews with the team behind the game including Peter Molyneux as well as extensive game footage. The Collector's edition will also offer players an extra bonus creature - the Tiger - bringing the total of selectable creatures to five.
