G2 Games are today announcing a new title for release in February 2006 across Europe. Alliance: Future Combat is a tactical real-time strategy game that takes modern warfare to the next level. Take control of elite US troops or play as the leader of extremist forces in one of twenty action packed levels of futuristic combat.
STORY
The year is 2008. The area between Iran, Afghanistan, India and China has become the Democratic Republic of North Djombystan (DRND). Seeking financial aid from the United States, DRND's leaders allowed the US military to build a top-secret subterranean base on their territory. But even DRND's government is unaware that the heavily fortified base is a research centre for genetic engineering on soldiers and a testing laboratory for next-generation weapon systems.
When terrorist infiltrators in the government learn of the base, a signal is sent to all "freedom fighters" to prepare for an all-out attack. A well organized army launches a coordinated assault and swiftly advances toward the secret base. American forces guarding the base, taken by complete surprise, put up a fierce resistance but know that their efforts are in vain against the superior numbers. The US government is left with only one option – deploy the elite AEGIS rapid response team to deal with the threat...

Train your Brain with a new DS game

After decades of exercising players' thumbs, Nintendo is now moving to their minds. Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day for Nintendo DS will help players flex their mental muscles. Brain Age represents the first in a series of U.S. brain-training titles that already have taken Japan by storm.
Brain exercise has been a hot topic lately. Baby Boomers and test-prepping school kids alike want to challenge themselves. In fact, a recent Time magazine article cited Brain Age in its exploration of the trend of people looking for ways to exercise their brains.
But Baby Boomers picking up a video game system? It's not as far-fetched as you might think. Three separate titles in the brain-training series are currently a huge craze in Japan. Each of them has achieved sales of more than 1 million units, with the most recent title hitting that milestone in less than a month. The craze has been fueled largely by older players, many of whom had never played a video game system before.
Brain Age (known as Brain Training in Japan) was inspired by the work of Professor Ryuta Kawashima, a prominent Japanese neuroscientist. His studies evaluated the effect of performing reading and mathematic exercises to help stimulate the brain.
Brain Age presents players with a series of fun mental brain-training challenges that incorporate word memorization, counting and reading. It even includes sudoku number puzzles, which have become extremely popular features in newspapers around the country. The distinctive touch screen of Nintendo DS lets users write their responses, just as though they were using a PDA. Players even turn the Nintendo DS sideways to make it feel more familiar, like a book. The more often users challenge themselves, the better they become at the tasks and the lower their estimated DS "brain age."
Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day is rated E for Everyone and launches on April 17. Big Brain Academy is Rated E for Everyone and launches May 30.

Hands-ON with Ridge Racer 6 on Xbox360

Last friday, we were invited by Electronic Arts and its press communication partner to witness the launch of the new Ridge Racer game, exclusive for the Xbox 360, "Ridge Racer 6".
The press conference was held in a big Audio/VW garage called Beerens in Antwerp. That was for the Flemish journalists while the French were in the other Beerens garage, in Overijse.
The purpose was to race against eachother, one racer in Antwerp and the other in Overijse on the Xbox Live network and to see who's the best, the Flemish or the French.
Anyway getting on time there were a few Xbox360 systems available, running Ridge Racer 6 and a sort of "racing seat" was there as well, running the game (that was then used for the actual multiplayer racing).
Bart from EA opened the press conference giving us a quick idea on what Ridge Racer really is, its features and most importantly how it looks.
Thomas then did a wonderful opening by showing us the real game.
I must say, Ridge Racer 6 looks amazing on Xbox360, especially with HD support. Scenery is absolutely fantastic and the cars, while not licensed does give you that "wow" feeling.
Gameplay is very solid but the soundtrack is 'again' more Japanese oriented. A shame we didn't hear some licensed tunes but then again ... that's just "Ridge Racer". No licensed cars or music and no damage models.
A pure arcade racer where you have to accelerate to the max and drift like insane.
Overall, it's a decent arcade racing game that will amaze you again.
After a quick ride the full retail game was given to us, with a press kit so expect a full review of the game soon. That's when we have our reserved Xbox360 console from Microsoft and they promised us to deliver that in about maximum 2 weeks!
Thanks again to EA and Bert from Global Image for the invitation and the wonderful chit chat.

Konami of Europe has announced it is to release an all-new racing game entitled Pocket Racers for the PSP (PlayStation®Portable) in spring.
Overseen by Konami of Europe Product Development in the UK, Pocket Racers features miniaturised cars whizzing around a series of everyday environments. The player is cast as a spoilt teenager at a party, who is transformed into a toy car by of a vengeful demon. What follows is a frenetic race for survival as the 'Nemesis' demon sets a series of increasingly hard challenges within the fully interactive – and destroyable! – play areas.
The cars in Pocket Racers represent the soul of the stricken player, and can be augmented through the collection of 'Soul Shards' which litter the play area. Collecting these allows the user to inflict massive damage on rival cars or the debris that clutters the race area, while additional weapons such as nitro boosts, missiles and ice can be used to sneak past opposing racers. These extra weapons are left around the courses, and must be gathered before your opponents get them.
The courses range from a messy bedroom, a conveyor belt-laden factory and a kitchen, and feature sneaky short cuts and hidden extras for the player to find. Pocket Racers also has a number of vehicle styles that are ideally suited to the varying locations. Sports cars, trucks, 4x4s and Coupes vie for attention, while other hidden vehicles can also be unlocked.
Pocket Racers is an extremely competitive racing game, and while it enjoys a taxing solo mode, can also accommodate up to four players simultaneously using the wireless capabilities of the PSPTM hardware. A 'Tagging' game where players attempt to colour objects forms the basis of one multi-player mode, while a madcap 'Soccer' mode also shows off the speed and sensitivity of the game's controls.
Pocket Racers will be released for PSP in spring, 2006.

Steel Horizons offers players complete control of Naval fleets within a series of missions within a fictional scenario featuring well-known World War II battles. Developed by Monolith Productions, the game allows players to experience an unnatural level of psychological tension as they use their instincts and forensic tools to track down serial killers and bring them to justice. Players will take on the role of Ethan Thomas, an FBI agent in the Serial Crimes Unit (SCU), whose pursuit of relentless serial killers leads him through detailed urban environments filled with terrifyingly real sociopaths who lurk on the periphery of humanity.
Condemned: Criminal Origins features amazingly photorealistic environments and true-to-life sound effects that transport players directly to the scene of the crime. Gruesome weapons can be fashioned by clever players from the environment: paper-cutter handles, wooden planks and lead pipes ripped from walls can all be used to attack opponents. The enemy AI is highly intelligent as well as enemies don't merely run at the player; they find an appropriately powerful weapon to attack with and then hide in the shadows, waiting for an open opportunity to strike.
Electroplankton comes to the European Nintendo DS

If you've ever fancied yourself as a budding artist, or have an undeniable creative streak in you, now is your chance to show those creative talents as Nintendo places a blank canvas in your hand and invites you to participate in a contemporary art installation – Electroplankton - from legendary Japanese artist, Toshio Iwai.
The simplicity of Electroplankton is where its beauty lies. It is not a 'game' in the truest sense of the word as it has no levels or scoring. Instead it is a creative medium allowing the user to experiment with both musical and visual effects to create their own multimedia masterpiece. The reward of this title doesn't lie in obtaining a score or finishing a level, but instead in the satisfaction of creating a totally unique piece of art every time.
Players must control the game by interacting with different breeds of plankton. By mixing luminescent oceanic graphics and imagery with soothing and tranquil electro-synthetic sounds, users can create a harmonic visual and audio experience. In the main Performance mode players select a breed of plankton and interact with it using the Nintendo DS's touch-screen or microphone.
In total there are ten different types of plankton in the game, all of which have different characteristics. These range from Tracy plankton which follow routes drawn on the touch-screen leaving a trail of light and sound, to Hanenbow which make music by bouncing off plant leaves. Volvoice memorises and repeats audio samples spoken into the Nintendo DS microphone, allowing you to personalise your compositions.
The game also features an Audience mode in which an assortment of demonstration tracks randomly play, showcasing the different plankton within the game and providing an invigorating audio-visual treat for the viewer.
Electroplankton is the ultimate way to soothe away the stress after a hard day. Calming visuals and soothing oceanic sound effects will help to wash your stress away and with no set objective, Electroplankton is never frustrating, no matter if you play it for two minutes or two hours.
Electroplankton launches on the Nintendo DS across Europe on 21st April 2006.

It seems so since website Kotaku reports that Microsoft has stopped with the production of X-Box consoles.
That means that there won't be any new Boxes made.
Here's the word from Kotaku:
It sounds like the plug may have been pulled on the original Xbox. We received an email from a retailer source of ours saying that wholesalers are now saying that Microsoft has stopped manufacturing the console. In other words, what's on shelves or in warehouses is all that's left.
Of course nothing official yet from the big boys over @ Microsoft.

Atari and Marc Ecko, the visionary behind several of today's most respected youth lifestyle brands, today announced that Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure has gone gold and is on schedule for European launch on February 17.
Set in the city of New Radius, Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure features a world where freedom of expression is suppressed by a tyrannical city government. In the game, players assume the role of Trane – an unlikely hero just looking to get up until he realizes there is much more at stake. Gamers learn and master various graf skills, starting as a toy (beginner) graffiti artist and using street-smarts, athletic prowess and vision necessary to become an "All City King," the most reputable of all graffiti artists. During their quest, players risk their lives navigating vertical landscapes while battling rival crews, a corrupt Mayor and the city's Civil Conduct Keepers (CCK) all in an effort to reach the sweet spots of New Radius, where a well-placed tag brings respect and reputation. Gamers also find themselves with an even greater burden – to use their high-wire graffiti talents to expose the oppressive mayor and set the city free.
"With its unique fusion of authentic urban culture and diverse gameplay elements, Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure represents a new and original gaming experience," said Cyril Voiron, Marketing Director, Atari Europe. Now the new poll is on "how much games do you play".
While there are certainly hardcore gamers among us who play every hours and hours, there are certainly gamers that game only when they have some spare time.
Or those that only play games in weekends.
Well let your vote count and let us know "how much games you play".

While it isn't official yet, rumours are floating the internet that Sony may offer the same or pretty identical "online service" like Microsoft with their "Xbox Live".
More is that Sony would go for more geographically game lobbies.
That means that you could play a game against a bunch of gamers from the same country as yours.
It would definitely be a bonus since Xbox Live doesn't have this function for now.
All we have to do now is ... wait until an official statement from Sony is released.
UK Gizmondo developer filing bankruptcy!

Well well ain't that a surprise! According to website "Engadget", Tiger Telematics UK, the developer of the 'Gizmondo' is filing for bankruptcy in the UK, their country of origin.
I have personally been following the Gizmondo the first time I saw it running with software on the 2004 European Games Network show (short EGN) in London and I must say, I was amazed by its potential of the console or better 'gadget'.
MP3, movies, games, GPRS and GPS were some features of the Gizmondo.
PlayDevil.com was in contact with its French Director of Sales, David Maille and also with its Vice President of European Distribution, Bertil Hjert.
After a few months we were fed up with their marketing management and everytime it was promises, promises and well promises.
It seems that they just couldn't deliver a Gizmondo console to the whole European country (and to us) and bad management causes the UK firm to file for bankruptcy.
We beter said : 'we told you so' but what's the use. And with Nintendo's DS and Sony's magical PSP, the Gizmondo was doomed.
So was the company behind it!
End of story.

Take-Two Interactive Software and Tecmo, Ltd today announced a European publishing agreement for Tokobot, developed by Tecmo for the PSP (PlayStation® Portable) system. Tokobot is anticipated to be released in March 2006.
Tokobot, Tecmo's first game for the PSP, is whimsical and wonderfully quirky. The storyline begins thousands of years ago, in the land of Moritari, where a prehistoric race created extraordinary technology that revolutionized life. Now, in modern times, this lost technology is being excavated from the ruins of the ancients by private labratories. However, the rediscovery of mini mechanised helpers, called Tokobots, has sparked interest from treasure hunters who plan to use the robots' powers to take over the world. It's up to our hero, Bolt, to foil their evil plan.
Players begin with just six Tokobots but, as the difficulty ramps up, the player will have to seek out extra robots in order to deal with the increasingly complex problems. Tokobots are able to generate 'joint actions' – a fusing together with Bolt to create ladders, swings and gliders – and can unify in Karakuri Combinations. Call one of these into action and watch your Tokobots merge and become a larger, much more powerful or more useful robot - such as the sword wielding samurai or block lifting crane.
The game also features a Time Attack mode once the player has completed the Story mode, as well as a selection of highly engaging mini games. The combined effect is a unique, fun and compelling gaming experience that can be played anywhere and at any time.

Konami of Europe's ever popular Dancing Stage® Unleashed series enters its third incarnation in March 2006 for Xbox®, and brings a number of key gameplay additions to the party.
Dancing Stage Unleashed 3 retains the familiar 'move to the beat' gameplay of the million-selling series, with players using an arrowed dance mat to match a series of icons as they move up-screen. Played to a soundtrack of pop classics, the action gets ever more frenetic as the pace is upped, while the Xbox version can also facilitate multi-players competing via the system's Xbox Live online service.
The new game features 20 new, licensed tracks and accompanying videos, with a further 30 Konami-exclusive tracks creating a varied track-list devised to push the player to their limits. As has become a staple of the series, both modern and classic pop tracks have been included, with Bodyrockers' 'I Like the Way You Move', Basement Jaxx's 'Oh My Gosh' and 'Wake Me Up' from Girls Aloud mixing with the likes of 'House of Fun' by Madness and FatBoy Slim's 'Rockafella Skank." The tracks are also accompanied by on-screen dancers who give a secondary indication of the player's prowess – while a biting CPU scorer will rate them as anything from 'Poor' to 'Excellent', depending on their timing.
Dancing Stage Unleashed 3 will be released for Xbox in March, 2006.

4Kids Entertainment and The Mirage Group announced today an exclusive worldwide license agreement with Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, to develop and publish Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles® video games based on the new CG feature-length film being produced by Imagi Animation Studios and to be distributed domestically by Warner Bros. Pictures and internationally by The Weinstein Company.
Under the Ubisoft agreement, it is expected that the video games will be available for gaming consoles in conjunction with the movie's planned release in early 2007. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie will be the first all CG animated movie in the history of the franchise. The PG-rated movie will derive its tone from the original comic-book series and will be grittier than the previous live action pictures.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been an international phenomenon for more than twenty years. The property began as an underground comic book and is now one of the most popular licenses; the 4Kids TV show is broadcast in 90 territories; and the toys, movies and video games are popular throughout the world.
"Ubisoft has demonstrated its strong commitment to making quality license-based games and truly understands the spirit of one of the world's most famous children's brands," said Christian Salomon, director of licensing at Ubisoft. "Ubisoft is thrilled to be bringing the Turtles back in an exciting new adventure that will attract both the first generation of enthusiasts all the way through to the current and future generations of fans."

POSTAL Producers Make End Around International Game Censorship!

Toss another shrimp on the barbee, Australia! Brazil, prepare to go Carnivale! New Zealand, Korea and the host of other countries whose citizens have been unfairly denied their birthright to play the video and computer games of their choice can finally rejoice! Running With Scissors (RWS), the World's Most Dangerous Software Company has cut through the bureaucratic, political and censorial red tape to make the POSTAL computer games universally available.
The move will also give the POSTAL video game franchise a passport to the United Kingdom (where it was banned in a hysterical overreaction to the tragic death of Princess Diana), hardware-happy Singapore, South Africa ("We're finally going to play Sun City," joked Running With Scissors CEO Vince Desi) and the largest potential market in the world, China ("We owe them something for giving us Fried Rice with Pork," Desi passionately proclaimed).
RWS has inked a deal with Softwrap which will allow the POSTAL game line to be sold virtually anywhere on the globe through a simple online transaction. Thanks to Softwrap's ability to deal in a wide range of foreign currencies and pay systems, RWS games will now be delivered to anyone, anywhere via online access.
The History of "Going Postal": In the mid-80s, a series of incidents occurred in the U.S. during which postal employees went unexpectedly berserk and began gunning down their supervisors and co-workers. The term "going postal" soon began to infiltrate American slang in reference to anyone who became suddenly violent.

Far Cry Instincts Next Chapter (working title) for the Xbox® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft will introduce players to an entirely new story, characters and game features that reflect and improve upon the critically acclaimed elements of the first title.
Far Cry Instincts Predator for Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft will feature both Far Cry Instincts Next Chapter and an enhanced version of the original Far Cry Instincts game. Offering the kind of lush and deep natural environment true to the Far Cry® brand, Far Cry Instincts on Xbox 360 will captivate gamers with its enhanced graphical reality and gameplay. Giving gamers the opportunity to discover the Far Cry universe in an optimized, high-definition environment, the game takes advantage of Xbox 360's multi-core next-generation engine for improved performance. Gamers will experience advanced pathfinding and new enemy and vehicle artificial intelligence for improved chase scenes and more enemies on-screen at one time, allowing for more adrenaline-rushing fast-action sequences. Far Cry Instincts Predator and Far Cry Instincts Next Chapter are slated for release in spring 2006.
"Far Cry Instincts quickly became one of the most talked-about games of 2005 because of its blend of high graphical quality, wide open environments and immersive gameplay elements," said John Parkes, EMEA Marketing Director for Ubisoft. "Ubisoft is confident that Far Cry Instincts Predator for Xbox 360 and Far Cry Instincts Next Chapter for Xbox will be among the best games this year."

Nintendo is putting a new spin on the classic with Tetris DS, available March 20 exclusively for Nintendo DS, which incorporates the use of Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection, Nintendo's wireless gaming service.
Hard-core and casual gamers alike became obsessed with the original. Tetris DS builds on that emotional attachment by combining the original game with new types of game play that could only be possible on Nintendo DS.
Each of the six modes of play features a theme based on a classic Nintendo game, such as Super Mario Bros.®, The Legend of Zelda® or Metroid®. The traditional Tetriminos (falling blocks) and line-clearing strategy remain the staples of the game, but the touch screen adds a new element of interactivity.
Some modes give players special Tetris puzzles to solve. Others feature head-to-head action between two players, or massive wireless battles between 10 DS users, even if only one player has a game card. Players also can log onto Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to compete in two- or four-player battles. Tetris DS even includes a point-based rating system based on players' battle results. Opponents can see one another's ratings, which indicate their skill levels.
Every gamer, whether competitive or casual, will find a way to reconnect with one of the most popular puzzle games in history.
