Corey May
Works for: Ubisoft
Position: Scriptwriter for Prince of Persia 3 Questions: 4
Interview by: in-house

Prince of Persia returns again! In this third installment, currently named as working title 'Prince of Persia 3', scriptwriter Corey May gives us more details on Farah's return.
1- How can it be that Farah returns? What happened?
POP3 is the final chapter of the Sands Trilogy and we're aiming to end the trilogy with a climatic episode, which will bring back all the major characters of the franchise. Obviously Farah is one of them, she brought a lot of emotions and wit to POP Sands Of Time and fans have been commenting her every actions and words since then on forums! Farah's return is linked to the invading army that has conquered Babylon. She and Prince will clearly have a similar goal in attempting to defeat the person who leads it. To say much more would be to give away key story points. Know that prior to the attack on Babylon, the Indian capital was assaulted as well (by the same people). Farah's father has presumably been killed, and her people enslaved by this new enemy. At this time, Farah was imprisoned - forced to watch as these terrible events unfolded.
When the invaders set their sights on Babylon, she was transferred to the city as well. Clearly the leader of the invading army has something 'special' in store for her. The reasons for this will become clear over the course of the game.
2- What happened to her since POP1?
Again, most of this is best left to the player to discover over the course of the game. In brief though:
Farah and The Prince have not seen each other for around seven years. And really, Farah's never seen The Prince. No Sands of Time in the past means no adventure at Azad. (And what else could it mean…) However, if we base our assumptions about her development on the young woman introduced in the first game, it's safe to say that she has changed (time does that to a person) but not that much.
She's still a compassionate and caring individual. She's still quick-witted and playful in her conversations. Yes she looks a little battle-hardened in the images you've seen, but think about it. A few weeks ago her kingdom was overthrown, her father murdered, her people imprisoned. She was tossed into a cage and pretty much left there to rot. So when she gets out - is she going to be wearing her Sunday best? Probably not. Is she going to want to protect herself. Probably. Is she going to have to piece together armor seeing as she's in a foreign city and not exactly on the 'winning' side. Yes.
Is she a tough-as-nails, take no prisoners, super violent killing machine? No. no. no. Up until a few weeks ago she was a princess. So while the times have gotten tougher (and she's risen to the occasion) don't expect her to have changed as radically as The Prince. His circumstances were (we think you'll agree) quite different. Also note that she has continued to practice with her bow. Rest assured her aim is much better. But don't expect her to have evolved into some kind of blood-thirsty amazon warrior maiden. It's the Farah fans came to know and love in Sands of Time, although it's also fair to say she's grown and evolved a bit over the past several years. We're leaving the details for the player to discover.
3- What is her role in the game? By the way, another love story with the Prince?
Farah's role in the game is quite significant. In addition to the practical assistance she provides by helping The Prince defeat his enemies, she serves a more character-oriented one as well. Farah is going to help The Prince learn compassion… she's going to help him learn how to be a better person. She's also going to provide some of the classic back-and-forth fun fans remember from Sands of Time.
To say anymore would give too much away.
4- What did you change in her appearance? Is she still the same? Artistic Direction?
In POP3, she's wearing a new fighting outfit which is very light and functional with arrows in a quick load quiver, all of which allow her to move in a fast and feline way. She also wears a light gear with small armour plates, a small knife and most important a very light and accurate bow.
Thanks again for this lovely Q&A.
