Introduction

Light and Shield

There are many accessoires for Nintendo's Gameboy Advance (SP). So many that you as consument can hardly choose which one to buy. And lets face it, not every manufacturer does produce good quality. There are some that are alright but there are others too.
However, Logic3 seems to be quite on top of things regarding the accessoires market. They produce new products on a regular base and they know how to make them.

For Nintendo's GameBoy Advance there are a lot of stuff that you can buy. Some are worth your money, others aren't. And some of those accessories are really giving you some help in general gameplay.
The product and it's indeed our very first GameBoy Advance review that we are put on PlayDevil's TEST bench is the "Light Shield Advance" from Logic3 for use with the GBA (not SP).
We'll put the product on the test bench to find out if this advance accessoiry is really needed.
Read below for more details.

What does it do?

Well, good question. The Light Shield Advance (lets call it LSA) in infact an add-on that needs to be hooked on the rear side of the GBA. It connects using the EXT interface and gets it power through that interface as well. So you don't need any batteries at all for this device. It uses it directly from the GBA.

On the LSA rear side, you have 3 possibilities. There's the ON/OFF button (really small), the EXT interface so you can still hook up a link cable and a dimmer light switch which enables you to, exactly dim the light more or less.

The Logic 3 LSA uses, like I said before, the EXT interface from your GBA to get its power. It doesn't need any batteries however I did notice that when you turn on the light, it will drain your batteries in no time. So good advice, only use it when play at night/dark areas or when there is a lot of relection in the GBA display. Don't use it because it 'look's cool.
The front side can be flipped up to whatever position you like. Flip it until you reach the best position and turn out the light with the ON button. It illuminates the GBA display and you can dim the light to your needs.

It also protects your Gameboy Advance screen from scratches since you can flip it down when you don't use your GBA. The entire device is made of hard plastic so it won't brake that fast. It found the Logic 3 LSA extremely useful since different lightning evironments and reflections can make it almost impossible to view your GBA screen. And this is frustrating especially when you're in middle of a game.

Testing the Light Shield Advance

Of course the Light Shield Advance from manufacturer Logic 3 had to be tested with extreme light conditions. First I used it in our office with all the lights off. It was complete darkness. I turned on the GameBoy Advance and also the ON button of the LSA.
Adjust the brightness to my needs and flipped the front window to the ideal position so the light wasn't reflecting itself on the GBA screen. And I must say, I was amazed how good it worked! The screen was totally luminated and everything was lit. After a few hours my eyes were a bit tired since watching @ only ONE light source isn't that good either so take a pause when you have to play in dark areas for a long time.

The next test evironment was using the LSA in the train. I regulary travel by train and when I used the GBA there were always reflection problems. Objects from outside were always reflected in the screen. Also the light evironment changes completely when the train is on the move.
When using the LSA most of the problems were gone. No reflections from the train's window whatsoever and the screen of the GBA was most of time completely visible.

Conclusion

Conclusion is that "Logic 3's Light Shield Advance" is a very useful accesoire. It gets rid of the reflections on the GBA screen when using its light, it's perfect for night play and when not using the GBA, it protects it from scratches.
For such a low prize you won't find anything better that does the same thing.
Logic 3's LSA is made of hard plastic so it doens't feel cheap at all.

If your GBA needs a decent lighting source for night play or need help with reflections in your screen, then the "Light Shield Advance" from Logic 3 is what you need!
