new reviews system - what do you think

so, we've updated our review scoring policy here at PD for the second time in about a year- we'dlike to see what you think of it!

Is it better or worse than the old system?

I do like the new system, pretty similar to the old.

I do love the user rating system though, thats a very cool touch.

Re: new reviews system - what do you think

I think the new review system is far better than the one we used previously. This problem i had with the old one is that working on averages a game i reviewed would come out with around a 3 star rating despite being pretty poor and scored the same or half a star less than one which overall was far better.

The new system allows me to show a clear difference in the quality of the overall games in my reviews and i agree with RK that allowing visitors to the site to add their own scores is a great touch as this shows what other gamers feel about the games and not just one player who has written the review.

Umm... is 50% average? Or do you skew high?

i think like most sites out there we would say that 6.0 is average; there is a rating system when you click on each title that has been 'officially' reviewed that shows you what band it falls into

I know, but I cant help but feel that points to the fact that most people aren't good at math.

i think it's also because  don't think many/any sites would give a game a zero; therefore 6.0 become average

Re: new reviews system - what do you think

Personally i see it as 90+ is excellent, 80-90 Very Good, 70-80 Good, 60-70 average with anything below 60 edging towards the poor side.

In the last year i have been reviewing for PlayDevil i haven't scored anything lower than the mid 50's or 2 stars overall on the previous scoring system.

Also think that many sites (and one or two magazines) are unbelievable in scoring games at 1 or 2 out of 10 which suggests to me that if their reveiwers take an instant dislike to a game it is automatically thrown to one side.

I have reviewed one or two stinkers but try and put the time in to show what positives they have as well as the obvious flaws. The way i see it is that all gamers have different tastes and what one person hates another may find enjoyable and i know all of the PlayDevil reveiews try and be as fair as possible when it comes to our reviews.

well said mark! however, there are obviously games that are really, really terrible, but i think we generally steer clear of the pc and wii vapourware out there as we have limited time and resources, and thus it's no surprise you don't see much score below a 5!
