Is it me or are games being released earlier and earlier for Christmas? It is only the second Friday in december and already there will be no more big releases until January 2010. Am I the only one that things that the industry has taken this a little...

Is it me or are games being released earlier and earlier for Christmas?

It is only the second Friday in december and already there will be no more big releases until January 2010. Am I the only one that things that the industry has taken this a little bit too far? There is still plenty of time to buy presents, and with MW2 already out for a month now, perhaps gamers are itching to buy a new title to keep them going until the Christmas rush? Whilst there are still some big titles that I am yet to review/ buy, it seems like an odd pheneomenon to me.

i'm at the point now where I have some more money to spend after buying many of the October/ November titles, but as some titles like Assassin's creed 2 have now been out for a few weeks I feel like I should wait for the sales to get them a bit cheaper- they are no longer the newest, 'must-have' thing out there any more, but are still full-priced.

Does anyone else feel the same way that release schedules should use more of December?

You dont have enough?!?! I think it is more down to the longer tail games want. I remember 10 years ago when I worked at Gamestation the last release of the year was on the 14th of Dec, Mystic Heros, hardly a blockbuster. I think just as we can buy them for ourselves we notice the gap, it used to feel like games only came out x-mas day when we had to rely on others to buy them!

I guess most publishers are holding their games NOT for the Christmas rush. Don't know why, perhaps with the FY or with just not being ready at all. January will make it up with plenty of interesting releases.

Agree 100% with this Ian. I am also really keen to get my hands on Assassins Creed 2 but with several other titles still to play i'm also tempted to hold on for the sales to see if there are any bargains to be had.
