Graphically, there is not a huge amount to say, the game being Mahjong. There are some tiles, which look fine, and some backgrounds, which to be honest, are neither particularly exciting, nor are they particularly high resolution. Nor is there any animation to them.

 

There are some special effects when you match some tiles, but to be honest, they obscure the titles that are now in front of you, thus slowing down your next move. Additionally, there were some small graphical errors, including some rudimentary spelling mistakes, which are simply unacceptable.

The first story is entitled ‘The Magic Painbrush’, when it should be ‘Paintbrush.’

 

 

Sound is a little better. There is some pleasant, although forgettable oriental music over the menus and during the games, which is fine, and also some voice-overs for the cutscenes between each level that tell the stories. This again, is fine, without ever being outstanding.

 

 

Multiplayer-wise, there are both local and online components. Whilst online Mahjong may sound attractive to people, I found that the online side suffered from some really bad lag. Considering various elements like the complexity of the game and the low graphics draw, this is not really acceptable.

 

 

However, this should be an easy patch for the developers to fix, and it did seem like there was a decent amount of people playing online already.

 

 

In conclusion, those looking for a Mahjong game for their PS3 won’t be disappointed. There are some annoying flaws to the game along with a few errors, but these should be easily fixed. And the large amount of content and modes, combined with online multiplayer means that this title can be reasonably recommended for fans, even if it isn’t the easiest game to pick up in the first place.
