ROCKET RIOT REVIEW
This game has the best story ever. A madcap pirate steals everyone in town’s ass, and then you have to get them back by strapping a rocket launcher to your bum. But does it play well?

Graphics & Sound:

The whole RR package is really well presented, with some nice menus which are both intuitive and pretty to look at. The whole visual style of the game is also brilliant, with a lovely 8-bit look, despite it being a 3D game.

RR looks like a retro game given a visual update for the current consoles, but it’s actually a brand new game, but despite knowing this, I thought that the blocky visuals were really charming and well suited to the old-school dual-joystick gameplay.

The graphics also provide clarity on screen, which is important given the frantic action going on. There’s a good variety to the levels and characters, with lots of comical dudes to choose from- it’s an excellent package overall, as it always performed well whilst I was playing too.

The sound is equally retro (although, again sporting a jazzed-up sound that makes it feel like an upgraded 80’s game), with the odd synthesized voice in the background, and music that whilst quite simple, is still far more listenable to than that of the average downloadable title.

Multiplayer:

Excitingly, RR offers up a full multiplayer suite of all the single player maps and modes for up to 8 players at a time. There seems to be a decent number of people playing online, and I never had much of an issue getting into a game.

However, once in games, about 50% had a little bit of lag. Not game-breaking, but nonetheless, noticeable enough. And in a game where precision is everything, it can take a little of the fun and madness about the game away. However, when you get a clean game, it’s great fun, complementing the manic single-player well.

Conclusion:

"Rocket Riot" is an absolute riot. Perhaps given the number of levels and the slight number of game-modes, single player perhaps outstays its welcome. In addition, multiplayer can be a little laggy. However, minor problems aside, the game is a lot of fun, has an awesome visual style and presentation, and is good value for money, and thus comes highly recommended!

Pros:

+ Visual style
+ Presentation
+ Frantic action

Cons:

- Can get repetitive
- Needs more modes
- Can be laggy online
