![]() Forza Horizon Hands-On Preview:
"Forza Horizon" is the child of Black Rock and Bizarre developers let loose on the Forza engine, and it really feels like a fantastic mixture of Pure, Project Gotham and Forza.
It also really does look lovely. It runs very smoothly so I can barely believe it is 30fps only; the Forza engine running effectively in reply mode for the whole gameplay experience.
There’s a great feel to the game as well, for fans of both arcade and simulation games. It feels like an arcade game with heavy traffic and open word races, but handles like Forza with a few aids on- which is easier than some might like for the handling, but others (NFS fans, perhaps) will find it odd needing to brake and finding that crashes do more than scratch the wing mirrors. It is, admittedly, a bit of a weird position being in this middle ground/ no-man’s land of genre.
Hopefully that won’t disadvantage the game, because it’s a very similar plot to where Project Gotham sat, and that was always a fan favourite.
The cars all look great and so does the traffic, which still uses real-world cars as well- after playing a couple of races it’s fair to say that I have some pretty high hopes for this one!
