![]() Aesop or slop?!
Arrrr, another pirate-themed game for XBLA, "Age Of Booty". Will it make your timbers shiver, or should it walk the plank? And is it worth your pieces of 8(00 MS points?)?? *groan*
Ahoy Pirate Story:
There are brief text intros to each mission, but no cohesive story. One could have been cool, but given the amount of maps, I’ll take the content over some rubbish plot anyday!
Gameplay:
The gameplay in "Age Of Booty" is strategy-lite. There is no resource management as such, nor building of units. You get a ship, and you go capture towns. Capture a set number to win. You often have AI with you, and up to 3 opponents.
You get resources from capturing towns and villages, and these can be used to upgrade the towns and ships you own. You can also take on the rampaging neutral ships to pick up curses to hurt the opposition.
It’s simple, but difficult to master thanks to the co-op element. You have to work together to win, and it’s here the SP falls down a bit. Your partner AI has a mind of its own, often won’t work together with you, doesn’t like to upgrade etc.
There is also no way of directing/ordering your AI to an area. This adds an unnecessary level of difficulty to the campaign, making it frustratingly difficult, often for no reason or doing of your own.
However, when played with friends, it can be a lot of fun!
