JOE DANGER SPECIAL EDITION REVIEW![]() Posted by PlayDevil.com Staff on Jan 19, 2012 12:45 (123 days ago) |

Multiplayer:
I have already eluded to the game featuring online leader boards and track sharing but also it features split screen races which sadly are for local games only.
I had hoped that the special edition would have seen online races included and I will admit that upon seeing their omission I was left a little disappointed. Having said this let me assure you that this should not be seen as a major negative as the vast amount of content and addictive gameplay far outweighs this omission in what is one of the most addictive and value for money currently available on the XBLA.
So what's new?
I originally gave the PSN version of Joe Danger a glowing review upon it’s original release and was looking forward to seeing what improvements and new additions had been included in the XBLA special edition of the game and I was not disappointed.
Firstly the game now includes a lab mode which offers around twenty five new tracks in differing scenarios and is separate from the impressive career mode. Each of the tracks in this mode offer something new and in many ways throw up some more interesting and tough challenges.
Secondly is the all round improvements such as improved loading times and what seems to me smoother gameplay. Both of which increase the all round glossiness of the package and make it even more playable.
Finally we have a series of rewards through achieving pro medals which are awarded for completing in level challenges and collecting the aforementioned stars. Once unlocked players achieve rewards such as avatar items and it is little touches like this that show the thought gone into producing this superb title.
Conclusion:
I will admit I loved Joe Danger on the PSN and the special edition on XBLA just improves the game no end and makes this a must have title.
Everything about the game is superb, from the cute and colourful presentation, vast amount of content and addictive gameplay which highlights everything which a downloadable title should be about.
Admittedly it has a couple of minor faults such as the slightly awkward controls and lack of online races but overall the rest of the game is so absorbing that these soon get forgotten such is it’s overall brilliance.
Although at 1200ms points "Joe Danger Special Edition" is one of the higher priced XBLA offerings it is without doubt up there with the very best and proves much better than many full retail titles available.
So take my word and download this superb game now. If you choose not to then you are missing out on a very special game indeed!!!
Pros:
+ Cute and colourful presentation
+ Excellent amount of content
+ Superbly addictive gameplay Cons:
- Slightly fiddly controls
- Lack of online races
