By finding hidden amulets in the main story mode a three player local game becomes unlocked. Again this sees two samurai warriors working in co-operation in a fairly run of the mill game however the third person becomes involved by using a guitar controller! This sees the player who is using this control method to control an onscreen guitar to defeat enemies by using the fret buttons and waving the guitar to assist their partners in defeating enemies.
Whilst this may seem fun to a few players I just cannot get my head around it’s inclusion and feel that it has only been included to add a little fun and to show that it is a game that is not trying to be too serious in it’s approach.
Odd achievements:
It is a challenge to gain all 200 achievement points from the game thanks to the games difficulty level however the most frustrating thing regarding achievements are the fact that some of them within the game offer silly amounts such as 3!!
Ok this is a minor thing but I would hazard a guess that most of us have some kind of obsessive compulsive disorder when it comes to our gamerscores and that we all like them to be an even number. Games such as this thankfully are few and far between so it is interesting as to why it has been chosen to use odd number achievements within the game….Strange!!
Conclusion:
It is clearly obvious that "The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai" was way to good in comparison to the majority of community games currently available and stands up very well as an XBLA title.
Whilst the gameplay may not (guitars aside) offer anything particularly unique the developers have to be applauded for their efforts in presentation which is particularly nice.
In addition the content of the game certainly represents good value for it’s 800ms point cost and if you can overlook the somewhat steep difficulty curve then you may find that you get a great deal of enjoyment from this perfect pick up and play game.
Pros:
+ Beautifully presented game
+ Comic strip story is a nice inclusion + Great value for money + Multiplayer is a good inclusion + Good amount of content Cons: - Gameplay can become repetitive
