ION DRUM KIT REVIEW![]() Posted by PlayDevil.com Staff on May 12, 2009 12:05 (May 12, 2009 12:05) |
However, once you actually start to play with the set, you will immediately notice the difference. The old kits, which had a real tendency to drop notes, were annoying, but with the ions, you get a real sense that any notes that you drop are your fault alone.
The pads are also a great deal quieter, and have a more realistic bounce to them, which actually helps you keep time to the beat better as well. Plus, the addition of the cymbals is excellent.
The cymbals and drums will actually make different noises depending on which you hit in Rock Band 2, which is excellent. It’s got a high quality feel to it, and everything feels more like playing an actual drum kit to top it off- overall, a far superior experience.
Conclusion:
Like many bits of premium kit, the "Ion Drums" are of really questionable value, commanding a price that is way more than all of the other bits of rock band kit, the 2 games, the AC/DC pack and an extra guitar.
However, if you are a huge fan of playing rock band drums, and either already play real drums, or are interested in learning, the kit isn’t bad value considering it also works as a USB kit if you swap out the brain for a PC one.
The actual quality of the kit also can’t be faulted (even if it is troublesome to assemble) and it will increase your scores and make you feel more like a proper drummer.
If you have enough money spare and spend a lot of time on rock band or guitar hero drums, this is well worth it; but for more casual players it probably isn’t worth the high price of investment.
