![]() Should this have been kept under wraps:
The content for Crackdown still keeps coming thick and fast. Does the "Deluge" mode, which ties in with the new windows smartphone game add to the main game? I was hoping that this would bring a decent amount of new content, as opposed to being a cynical cash-in.
Story:
There’s no new story related content in Pacific City- instead, this is a multiplayer-focused effort that adds one new co-op way of playing, and a new competitive multiplayer mode thrown into the mix as well.
Gameplay:
The Deluge pack adds two new modes to Crackdown 2, and a few new extras, the most exciting of which has to be the Agency helicopter, which is armed to the teeth, and can even kill freaks by carving through them with the blades. Whilst Deluge can be played in single player, it’s both tough and pretty dull- it’s a game mode clearly designed for co-op.
If you don’t have Xbox live gold, then there’s really no way that you should ever buy this pack, despite what the advertising blurb may tell you.
Graphics & Sound:
Crackdown 2 was never the most impressive looking game when it came out 6 months ago. Deluge mode just serves to reinforce that issue.
Whilst the amount of action without slowdown is kind of impressive, Pacific City looks pretty rough compared to some other open-world games, and a lot of the textures just look pretty bland and basic- and the Deluge pack doesn’t change this at all.
There’s some new speech from the Agency general in Deluge mode, but don’t expect much else- the download is less than 200MB- perhaps indicative of the lack of content- and the commentary style lines wear thin and start to repeat pretty quickly.
