Graphics & Sound:
Graphically, the game is pretty decent from the default perspective. When the camera zooms in, however, you can see that most of the textures are pretty sketchy though. Also, the explosions in cut-scenes are really badly animated and look terrible, with poor smoke and fire effects.
However, the visual design of the boats and levels is really nice, and the water effects are pretty decent too. I did find a few visual glitches, however, with one level really stuttering and not rendering properly in places, which also affected gameplay too.
Sound is pretty poor. As I’ve mentioned, the voice acting is some of the worst I’ve ever heard- and it’s not even ‘so bad it’s good’. Music loops after about 10 seconds, which is grating, and the sound effects are reasonable, but hardly spectacular.
Multiplayer:
There are a few different multiplayer options available in Aqua- but the local modes- checkpoint racing and deathmatch, just weren’t that fun at all.
Conclusion:
"Aqua" is an interesting title that I think some people will enjoy more than others. The core gameplay is enjoyable- and the power-ups, levels, and different ships certainly mark it out from the crowd. However, the story is confusing and not well written, and the voice acting abysmal. The game is also short, and there’s no point in the multiplayer. For 800 points, I’m not sure Aqua is worth your time- but as a cheaper Deal of the Week purchase, you’ll get a good 2-3 hours of fun from it.
Pros:
+ Power Ups
+ Some replayablity + Visual Style Cons:
- Short
- Poor multiplayer
- Awful voice acting
