![]() Return of a classic:
Make no mistake "Final Fantasy XIII" is the game all next gen console owners have been waiting for and as an added bonus for the first time the game gets released on multiple formats and does not stick to the Sony Playstation.
In this review we take a look at eagerly anticipated game to see if it has been worth the long wait and plays as well as it looks.
Jap graphics & sound:
Before we tackle the real key aspect of the game in the storyline and gameplay we take a look at the graphical and sound aspects which through numerous teasers has had gamers everywhere drooling in anticipation of it’s release.
Let me say that Final Fantasy really does not disappoint in it’s presentation which looks and sounds truly amazing, particularly the numerous cut scenes which are backed by a sublime soundtrack.
It is clearly obvious that although the game has taken what seems like an eternity to be released an awful lot of due care and attention has been put into making the game nothing short of mind blowing and simply highlights what a massive production budget has gone into this game.
Each character has a real manga feel to them and the various environments have been presented superbly which suggest from the outset that the game could prove to be an epic.
If I were asked to describe Final Fantasy XIII in one word based on first impressions, That word would be STUNNING!!!
Storyline:
Final Fantasy games have always been associated with having absorbing and emotion driven storylines and at first the latest instalment shows signs the this trend is going to continue. However it does not take long to realise that the games story does not live up to it’s early potential and if I am being honest is a tad disappointing.
In Final Fantasy XIII the story centres around numerous characters all of whom have their own specific stories which link together as the game progresses. This at times proves a little confusing although is also pretty clever when they come together and their stories inter-twine.
It seems that the developers have gone for a more radical approach to the game for the first next gen release in the series with a change of how the story pans out and personally I feel that previous instalments (particularly FFVII) have been far more captivating and engrossing.
