Dragon Age was not a technically perfect game- there were certainly better looking games released in 2009, but it was still by far and away my favourite game of the year. Featuring an incredibly detailed, beautifully crafted game world, a great art style, interesting and lifelike characters, with every single line voiced, and one of the best stories ever featured in a game, Dragon Age was just truly magnificent. Not only does the game take at least 35 hours to complete, but then provides you with so many moral choices and starting characters that it would take about 100 hours to see everything. Every part of it was memorable, and I’m really looking forward to what BioWare does with all the DLC, and also looking forward to a second playthrough! And the fact that I want to go back and keep playing this game after spending nearly two full days of my life playing it is why Dragon Age is my game of the year in 2009.
1. Modern Warfare 2 (Mark)
Hard to improve on perfection? Modern Warfare 2 does this with a graphical improvement and a controversial yet absorbing storyline. Stunning!
1. Demon’s Souls (Alex)
Number one spot goes to Demon’s Souls, a title has managed to constantly draw me back to it. Set in a desolate world, devoid of any real life it is cold and lonely, so while I may never want to go there on holiday it perfectly fits the fantasy medieval setting. It is usually challenging, often punishing and at times seemingly impossible. Progress is slow, but rewarding and even at its most devious you feel like you can make progress, if you just grind a little harder.
1. Modern Warfare 2 (Chris)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was one of the most intense first person shooters of 2009, in fact it's easily one of the most intense shooters of all time. The game was surrounded by much hype before its release and, for me, it lived up to it. The campaign, whilst short, is one that is full of explosive memories and set pieces, whilst the multiplayer is some of the finest I've ever experienced.
