Graphics:
Before the player even attempts to tackle the main storyline the first thing that hits you is the stunning cell shaded graphics which look so much different from anything currently available and is pretty jaw dropping.
Everything about the look of the game from the stunningly good character design which includes an amazing amount of over the top enemies to the excellently animated environments oozes quality.
I have to say that for a game which has pretty much crept under the radar this will be hard to beat in terms of graphics and a big thumbs up should go to the developers for what they have achieved.
Multiplayer:
If the single player quest was not enough the game also includes a hugely enjoyable multiplayer which includes both local and online play.
The first mode is the co-operative play which can be played with up to four players and the real beauty is that anyone can join or leave a game at any point without having long annoying waits in lobby’s or games quitting when a player leaves. In addition is the ability to carry over characters stats to these games which undoubtedly adds to the overall appeal of Borderlands and makes it one of the better co-operative games currently available.
Also the game features the usual death match modes which largely thanks to the weaponry and surroundings proves enjoyable however it would be fair to say that the real winner is in the co-operative play.
Conclusion:
"Borderlands" is a game which has somewhat crept under the pre-Christmas radar and thanks to it’s stunning presentation and excellent multiplayer and RPG elements is a title well worth owning.
I will admit that the game was not on my ‘must have’ list however what I got was a very pleasant surprise which has so far provided me with a very enjoyable and addictive experience which I whole heartedly recommend.
Pros:
+ Excellent graphical presentation
+ Superb multiplayer + Good use of RPG elements Cons:
- May suffer against higher profile releases
- Nothing revolutionary in terms of gameplay - Takes a little while to get going
