Sound once again absorbs you into the game with the commentary adding to the authentic feel and flowing well without too much repetition along with the crowd noise which certainly adds a nice sense of atmosphere to the game making FIFA 10 once again stand out as the complete footballing package.
Multiplayer:
Along with ‘Be a pro’ probably the stand out aspect of FIFA 09 was the multiplayer game which allowed the game to be played in 10 vs. 10 online with each gamer controlling a single player on the pitch although this was not without a number of minor faults. Thankfully this mode once again returns and it seems that this now flows even smoother than before making FIFA stand out as undoubtedly one of the greatest multiplayer sports games currently available.
IF 10 vs. 10 is not your thing then of course 1 vs. 1 both online and local can be played which is perfect for challenging friends however one should expect a fair amount of frustration particularly from players who may quit when facing defeat.
Downloadable content:
Unquestionably one of the highlights of FIFA 09 was the constant amount of downloadable content which came out at regular intervals and added longevity to the game. The most brilliant of these was the regular live season updates which were free throughout the season and saw the games statistics change to mirror the Improvements/loss of form and injuries of real life players.
Again this is such a simple concept but one which was done to perfection. Thankfully this again makes a return in FIFA 10 however this year it seems that these updates will come at a cost. Whilst these updates add authenticity and make the game even more realistic I am sure that they will not prove essential however I for one am a little upset by the decision to charge for these.
It will be interesting to see if the added cost of downloads will remain a trend throughout the season and personally I see this as just about the only backwards step of this years installment to the FIFA series.
Conclusion:
I approached "FIFA 10" wondering just how the almost perfect football game could be improved. Undoubtedly it has with the inclusion of the new 360 degree player movement and the more realistic AI which still has room for improvement but is no more realistic than ever in addition to the improvements to the ‘Virtual Pro‘ and ‘Manager‘ modes.
Admittedly the changes to FIFA 10 are not as groundbreaking as those seen last year however the game remains the king of football games and it will be hard to see just how the game will be beaten.
Pros:
+ Virtual pro better than ever
+ Improvements to AI giving the game a more realistic feel + Excellent amount of content Cons:
- Now appears to be a cost for live season updates
- Not a massive improvement over FIFA 09 - Stadiums could still do with improvement
