![]() The Conduit:
If you're into the whole expanded market thing Nintendo started with DS and Wii, there's a good chance you're satisfied with your Wii, playing fresh and new experiences. But if you're in the group that has been around for the last generations, and value your graphics and online play, can Nintendo's console handle your expectations?
The answer is "The Conduit". High Voltage Software's philosophy is as disruptive as the Wii itself, trying to catch the public that feels no one cares for them. So it's an Xbox 360 experience on your Nintendo Wii.
Story:
Michael Ford, a secret agent working for a government that gets tricked, and sucked in the middle of a full alien invasion on Earth. It's not original, but a few twists might get to you every once in a while. Some references are obscure enough to show the team’s efforts, like Colares, in Brazil.
Gameplay:
Uniting the best of the two worlds, The Conduit has shiny graphics and great gameplay. If you've played previous first person shooters on Wii, you might have experienced some degree of calibration, like in Metroid Prime 3 or Medal of Honour Heroes 2, but you have never seen something like this.
You can calibrate the sensibility to unthinkable levels, from point perfect trembling to old man reflexes. You can even change the strength required to shake the Wii Remote or Nunchuck, or even change what action you want on the shaking. The HUD can also be placed anywhere on screen in an incredibly easy way. It's even possible to customize the speed you walk! Pretty strange, isn't it?
But control wouldn't mean anything if there wasn't anything to shoot. I gotta say, The Conduit is one of the most action packed FPS I've ever played. Everything is intense, there's always a lot of stuff going on in the screen.
Even though it may look like nothing new, it's well done to a point where we haven't seen anything like it lately. The simple use of grenades, as they should be used, is a big point in the game. How often have you played a FPS where you just never touched the grenades button? That won't happen here
Another big focus of the gameplay is the "ASE", the 'All Seeing Eye', a device that adds quick puzzles that go to hacking devices to unlock doors to detecting invisible locks or mines.
Something that adds an extra punch to the single player are the special weapons that you can only find there. Most of the weapons in the Conduit are pretty fun to use, but the special ones give you a reason to come back even after endless hours of multiplayer.
The only drawback is that there isn't a lot of Wii Remote support for the weapons. While you have a weapon with a "homing" shot and one where you can "twist" the shot, there's not a lot to do with these.
