Graphics:
I'm not one to favour graphics over gameplay, but this is a nice point to talk about The Conduit. We see lots of companies saying how the Wii is just not powerful enough, but you won't see High Voltage Software saying that. Instead of going the easy way of blaming the hardware, these guys manage to squeeze a lot of juice out of it.
Something needs to be made clear though, while technically the game is a powerhouse, the same can not be said of the art, which is pretty generic. That means that even though the game looks really detailed, you won't stop to see a beautiful scene at any point.
That said, The Conduit is easily mistaken for an Xbox 360 game, with tons of shader effects which bring depth, lightning, reflections, great textures and everything you came to not expect from a Wii game.
Sound:
Although sound effects sometimes look generic, what really bothers me in The Conduit are the online sounds. You're gonna be hearing those for a lot of time and they can become a nuisance. The music is ok to keep you in the mood for blasting aliens.
There's some great voice work putting a lot of emotion on the characters, and that help you to care a little for them, even with little cutscenes telling the story.
Getting online:
While the experience is incredibly fun and the Wii Remote adds a lot to even a simple deathmatch, the voting can be a problem. There's no way to actually chose what you want to play, it's a random selection trough all game modes someone voted for.
Some of then are not too much killing based, like ASE Football, where the player score points for keeping the ASE and running around from other players.
Aside from the voting, it's not hard to see people spending hours and hours on The Conduit online mode, being probably the best experience on the console, surpassing 'Medal of Honour: Heroes 2'.
Conclusion:
"The Conduit" is a very polished experience for the Wii, and while the single player is a little too short and you're done exactly when at its best, the multiplayer can keep this game going for the next few months without any trouble.
Keep your eyes open for future games from High Voltage Software if you're looking for great polished experiences from people who won't tell you "the Wii can't do that".
Pros:
+ Great multiplayer experience
+ Action packed single player + Decent graphics + Good voice work Cons:
- A little short
- Incomplete story
