MADBALLS IN BABO INVASION REVIEW![]() Posted by PlayDevil.com Staff on Oct 7, 2009 15:30 (Oct 7, 2009 15:30) |

Multipliers are amassed via collectables and points seem to be a major focus. In keeping with this the story can easily be brushed aside and the majority of the experience seems like more of an extended training for the multiplayer.
Multiplayer:
It’s actually a shame the single player is so long because completing it does feel like something of a necessity in order to really enjoy the multiplayer game. Unlocks can be achieved in both modes but jumping straight into the online verses game ends up being wholly unsatisfying as you start out with very few options available to you leaving you incredibly underpowered.
Online play itself may not do anything amazingly innovative but adds enough interesting twists to make it appealing different. It offers a co-op play through the campaign, a number of versus options and an avatar mode. Its most interesting feature though is the map construction. Each player lays tiles in turn, so every game takes place on a different map layout. Though the variety of titles is not vast the simple fact that they can be laid in any order offers a huge number of possible play environments. This in conjunction with the total number of characters and weapon combinations ensure play won’t quickly become stale.
The only real problem with the online is that nobody seems to be playing. In the last week I have rarely ever found more than one or two games available at any time, and they are often near empty. It’s a shame as the game supports up to sixteen players online and I would love to get into some full games.
There is a chance that it may just be my location here in Japan, maybe in another territory there will be more matches available. If it were possible to guarantee a larger online community then the multiplayer could be incredible but I simply have no way of knowing.
Conclusion:
At eight hundred Microsoft points "Madballs Babo Invasion" is well worth a look, and defiantly a better use of you points than TMHT (or TMNT). I would like to be able to recommend it more highly but my experience has been far from ideal.
Luckily the demo allows you to try out the versus play (with limited options), so I can recommend downloading it and having a look at how active the community is in your region. If its active, I would recommend picking it up whole-heartedly. If not, then it depends how long you thing entertaining but slightly repetitive single player will hold your attention.
Pros:
+ Interesting multiplayer
+ Sizable and challenging single player ensures good value + Nice sense of humor Cons: - Lacking a strong community
- Camera Restricts view - Slow unlocks limit online fun
