You also get rated on how many moves you used and your time, and the fact that gold medals are so hard to get just reinforces the hardcore difficulty of the game. You need some serious practice and tests to get those medals, which will help with longevity for those that do get really addicted.
Graphics & Sound:
The graphics are clearly the most impressive part of Cuboid. Whilst the levels are quite small, they are beautifully textured, and the backgrounds are also absolutely fantastic. The level of detail for a downloadable game is really to be commended.
Whilst the game is clearly not pushing the realms of what the PS3 can do, it also renders at 1080p, which again is something that DL games normally ignore. It seems like most developers think that as their title is downloadable, that they can get away with murder, so it’s a refreshing change to see such love go into the title. If only more games could be like this then the quality of the various download service on consoles would be so much better. The sound, whilst a little more generic than the graphics, is also pretty pleasant and listenable to, which again, for a DL game can be pretty unusual to be honest!
Conclusion:
"Cuboid" is a really good, fresh puzzle game suitable for just about anyone. However, it does require some serious thought, attention and focus right from the beginning. Clearly a better or easier tutorial would have helped things, but for hardcore puzzle fans, they will probably appreciate the challenge all the more. At a reasonable price for a half decent amount of levels, all in a great looking and nicely presented package, PS3 owners can’t really go too far wrong with Cuboid.
Pros:
+ Makes you think
+ Good graphics
+ Nice presentation
Cons:
- Seriously hard
- Slightly lacking content
- Can be frustrating
